It was not “Old School Hockey”, but ‘Old School Baseball’ that helped Youngstown, Ohio take the 2025 COLT Baseball East Zone Tournament this morning at Stoner-White Stadium, inside Jaycee Park….
Final Score:Youngstown, Ohio 6, Greensboro Green 3
Maybe we could say that Greensboro Green ran out of pitching, but they still battled back in this game, and every time Greensboro would make a run/score a run, Youngstown would counter…Youngstown led early, 2-0, then it was 2-1, then 4-1, and then Greensboro would add on two more runs, but Youngstown was there for the important two insurance runs…
One of the key thoughts on this game would be, “The Ball Takes Some Funny/Strange Bounces”, and it did on Saturday at Stoner-White Stadium…In the bottom of the 6th inning, with Greensboro Green at the plate, the GB Green batter hit a soft tapper out in front of the plate just a couple of inches, and everybody froze for just a brief moment thinking it was a foul ball, but the Youngstown catcher had the wherewithal to heave the throw to second base to get one out, and then Youngstown sent a toss to first base for the second out, and that was a Super HUGE Double Play right there…Small ball GIDP, and Youngstown using that “Old School Baseball” mentality to stay on top….
Copper Marks got the start for Greensboro Green, and the Greensboro guys went through two more pitchers before game’s end…
Youngstown, Ohio goes (3-0) in the East Zone COLT Baseball Tournament, while Greensboro Green finishes out at (2-2)…Onto Illinois next week for the young men from Youngtown, and best of luck to them in the COLT Baseball World Series, as they represent the East Zone, as the 2025 COLT Baseball East Zone Champions….
