High School Football This Week for Friday August 22, 2025
Without too much early fanfare, here is the schedule for this Friday night for our Guilford County and area teams…We will go back and drop in a few details as the games get closer….For right now, let’s just give a look at what is happening for Friday….**********Wrote more on these games than I planned to, but hey, first time back at the long form roll of a new high school football season…Call let up off of the gas later, I guess…Here you go for NOW!!!!!

Southeast Guilford at Western Guilford 7pm…We will have this game for you on GreensboroSports Radio 2, with Demetri Morrison on hand for the call…Tim Baker ready to do some hard and strong running for WG, and the WG Hornets have new back, CJ Blevins, to compliment what Baker can do…Caleb Moore, very solid QB for WG, and he can run too…Caleb Jackson, at RB and at LB, ready to lead the SEG Falcons, up and down the field…..

Cardinal Gibbons at Dudley 7pm…We will have this game for you on GreensboroSports Radio 1, with Coach Randy Norris there to join us for the call…Really want to see Braden Jeffries at QB for Dudley, as this team is now his, and hoping for big and successful things for this young man…He stayed the course….LB Robert McCollum is a true defensive leader for the Panthers…

Western Alamance at Northwest Guilford 7pm…NWG loves to run that ball, but I bet you will see them throwing it a lot this year too…Rakem Hammock at WR is a one of the top targets in the state, and the NWG QBs(Price and Marshall) will love sending the pigskin his way….

Page at Charlotte Christian 7pm…Word we had was that Page looked real good last Friday night, at the Farm Bureau Insurance Jamboree up at Reidsville HS…Word was from Bryant Roche, with the News and Record…Williamson at QB for Page and Jesse Poole at RB, and Asai Poindexter at WR and Zion Malloy at ATH, and Page has some weapons…

Ragsdale at Southern Guilford 7pm…Second-year head coach Antwon Stevenson for RHS, and second-year head coach Garrett Mills for SG and both of these teams looking for their true identity…Great matchup coming to us from CK Siler Stadium, and every time I write the old coach’s name down, it makes me want to jump up to my feet, and stand in his honor…One of the pure, all-time greats….Coach CK Siler….

Northeast Guilford at Morehead 7pm…And all eyes on the NEG Rams offense, now led by head coach Antonio Hall, who was the offensive coordinator at Dudley in recent years…NEG Ram fans getting ready for the QB Jacquez Crawford to WR Aaryn Tate hookups…This NEG is one that everybody is going to be tracking….They will not sneak up on anyone…The word on NEG is out there…

Eastern Guilford at Eastern Alamance 7pm…I am kind of curious to see what Sam Haith does this season for EG at DB…Young man, with a very sound future…EA has their old ball coach, John Kirby, back coaching again…Kind of wild there…EG very solid at QB and at RB…Eastern Guilford slow start last year, but really came on very strong at the end of the season, peaked at the right time period…

Rockingham County at Southwest Guilford 7pm…New coach Berkley Russell for SWG and old coach Doug Robertson the head man for The ROCK…Just met coach Russell last week, and he is very sound on the old-school fundamentals, and Coach Robertson is one of the most fundamentally sound coaches I have ever been around…Old School is a good school, and let’s butt heads and see what happens….

Cannon/Concord Academy at High Point Christian Academy 7pm…Curious to see how many TD connections might be coming, with HPCA QB Amsterdam Knox, going to WR Toot Clay…Jaylen Moore, a very good runner too…

Northern Guilford at Reidsville 7:30pm…Would be a great time for Northern Guilford to go up to Reidsville and get an upset victory…NG lead by names like QB Jaxson Kemp, RB Amare Akers, WR Greyson Council, OL Sam Bagley, and LB Chance Crews…This NG is a team some people are sleeping on this year, and I think this bunch is ready for a possible deep playoff run…Tough non-conference schedule, but stay healthy, and good things could be coming the way of the NG Nighthawks, in 2025…Dionte Neal and Kendre Harrison are “Upset Killers” for the Reidsville Rams….

Thomasville at High Point Andrews 7:30pm…Andrews with new head coach Mook Reynolds, and let’s see what type of team HPA will be, with the insert of youthful exuberance from Coach Reynolds and his assistants, like Tre Turner…They can’t play, but if they can lead, Mook and Tre might help HPA have a good day, what do you say???

High Point Central at Asheboro 7:30pm….Central going into Randolph County, and the HP Central Bison led by new head coach Brent David…Brent David, the man with two last names, was named defensive stalwart back in his playing days at HP Andrews, and you have to think the Defense will in time become a very part of the new foundation, for High Point Central Bison football…Against Asheboro, we will have to wait and see…

Grimsley at West Charlotte 8pm…With this game being played at Bank of America Stadium…The Grimsley Whirlies the top high school football team in North Carolina in many polls, while West Charlotte is listed as the #1 team in our state, in a few polls…8pm game and the game will be broadcast on LIVE TV on TV 48, here in the Triad….Have seen Grimsley ranked at #15 in the nation, in some key Prep Polls, as we go into the 2025 season…Faizon Brandon is the key, as the Grimsley QB, and they have senior RB Micah Williams who looked good in the WS Reagan scrimmage…Also at RB is powerful RB Ty Shoemake…OL led by Nick Kashubara, and your WRs going deep with Kaden Catoe, Hudson Cooper, Khyan Battle, and Patrick Carter…That receiving corp, when you add in TD DJ Howerton, looks to be everybody back in 2025, and that is almost amazing, when you stop and think about it…Those receivers kept on getting better last year, and now all of them are back again this year…Almost mind-boggling when you stop for a second and just think, how can you stop them all, and you have the man many feel is the best quarterback in the nation throwing to those FIVE receivers….That is almost crazy…You have a super QB, and plenty of wideouts to get the ball to, and those wideouts seem to be getting better…Coach Sam Greiner will coach his West Charlotte Lions up, but they are really going to need to be playing up, to hang in there with the Grimsley Whirlies…Some of the best stuff on defense this year for Grimsley, might be coming from Kosci Barnes and the DBs…Again, game on TV 48, at 8pm….That Grimsley coaching staff is very well rounded, and with the talent on hand, everybody should be looking good over Greensboro Grimsley High School…

It will be scout night for the Smith Golden Eagles, as they are OPEN/Off in Week One…

A few other area games for the charts….
Glenn at East Forsyth 7pm…And I am looking forward to seeing what East Forsyth has going for them this season…Not sure if the Glenn game will be a huge test for the EF Eagles, but is is a game against one of their key rivals, and this is, “The Battle of Kernersville/The Battle of K-Vegas”…..

Mount Tabor at WS Reagan 7pm…Some strange in the back of mind, tells me this is going to be a War…Don’t have the Davie War Eagles here, but these two programs are always putting top talents on the field…And I think WS Reagan has a QB that can sling it real good…Maybe Josh Smith, or something like that, and he got hurt last season, and that killed Reagan’s chances for maximum success…Tabor is always tough, and sometimes “Dirt Tough”…And that keeps you on the ground and grounded….

West Forsyth at Davie County 7pm…This game could also ruffle a few Forsyth County feathers….West Forsyth lost the CJ Blevins kid, a top running back to Western Guilford, and then the WF Titans got a RB, and it was I believe the Mozes Morris kid from Lake Norman, and that was Lake Norman’s top running back…Former NWG head coach Kevin Wallace, the man in charge at West Forsyth, and WF had 14 coaches listed on staff…

Southeast Alamance at Orange 7pm…If I lived down around Alamance County, this is the game I would be going to…Orange led by head coach Fritz Hessenthaler, who has been out of coaching for for almost 2 years, and he will be “Wired” and ready…He has always reminded me of the opposing coach from the Championship Game in the movie, Facing the Giants….Coach Fritz gets the most out of his men, and he does not pull any punches, as the old saying goes…It is his way or the highway, and you know what you are getting when you take the field and go into battle for Coach Fritz…Orange and Coach Fritz have the former head coach from Burlington Williams, David and his last name may be Williams, and they also have the former head coach of the Graham Red Devils on their staff…Now here come the Southeast Alamance Stallions, coached by former Eastern Guilford head coach, and former Eastern Alamance assistant coach under John Kirby, and that is the man, Tony Aguilar…Coach A has his men playing ready and focused football…Plus the defensive backs coach for SE Alamance is Marlon White, and last year, he was the head coach at Southwest Guilford…Going to be “Fun Times” down near Hillsborough, at Orange High School, on Friday night…Coach Fritz has been waiting on this one for well over a year….
