The Rockingham County Cougars were set to compete with the Walkertown Wolfpack on Walkertown’s homecoming night, but weather derailed those plans this Friday. And now, that conference game will not be rescheduled.
Rockingham County’s schedule included no empty weeks until the final week of the season, when Walkertown will be busy taking on Morehead on Halloween. Walkertown will look to compete on what was set to be their bye week, which takes place the week of October 10th.
Heading into this week, Rockingham County was ranked 25th in the 5A RPI, but this week’s lack of action dropped them two spots to number 27.
This has implications for the conference championship race. According to the NCHSAA By-laws, conference championship is based on winning percentage, so if two teams finished 6-0 and 5-0 respectively, they would still be crowned co-champions. However, if Team A went 5-1 in the conference and Walkertown or Rockingham County went 4-1, it would be a devastating way to lose a banner.
Here are the current Mid-State Conference standings.
