The Citadel Mourns the Passing of Former Bulldog Quayson Williams
from The Citadel Athletics
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel Department of Athletics and The Citadel men’s basketball program mourn the passing of Quayson Williams, who competed for the Bulldogs from 2015 to 2019.
Williams, a native of Trenton, New Jersey, and graduate of Eastern Guilford High School (N.C.), was a four-year member of The Citadel basketball program. During his collegiate career, Williams appeared in more than 100 games and finished ninth in program history with 176 career three-pointers made. He concluded his career with 851 total points, ranking 51st all time in program scoring, and was named to the Southern Conference Honor Roll for the 2017–18 academic year.
“Quay had an infectious smile and all his teammates loved him,” said former Citadel Head Coach Duggar Baucom, who coached Williams from 2015 to 2019. “This has been heartbreaking news for everyone who knew him. His teammates, former assistants, and our entire Citadel basketball family are all hurting. He was such a joy to coach and represented the program with pride. One of my favorite memories of Quay was his game-winning layup against VMI at home, when he went the length of the court and finished at the buzzer. The crowd stormed the floor that night, and it was a moment none of us will ever forget.”
Williams earned his degree in sport management from The Citadel in 2019. Known for his leadership, competitiveness, and dedication to his teammates, he represented The Citadel with pride both on and off the court.
The Citadel Athletics Department extends its deepest condolences to the Williams family, his friends, and all who were impacted by his life and legacy.
