Baseball Drops In-State Bout Against Wake Forest
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was defeated by in-state foe Wake Forest, 14–3, at David F. Couch Ballpark on Tuesday night. Jacob Dilley drove in the only runs with his three run shot in the top of the sixth inning.
Wake Forest jumped out to the early 4-0 lead in the second inning after a two-run shot and back-to-back doubles. The Demon Deacons continued that momentum as they pushed across one run in both the third and fourth frames for a 6-0 lead.
The Demon Deacons broke the game open in the top of the fifth as they put together a rally of five runs with three hits to put the score at 11-0. The UNCG offense woke up in the top of the sixth, as Ethan Brittain and Brantley Truitt both walked to put two runners on with no outs. Dilley stepped to the dish and mashed a moon shot over the left field wall for his sixth home run of the season, 11-3. Wake Forest responded with three runs of its own the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 14-3. The Spartans were sat down one-two-three to end the game at 14-3.
