GREENSBORO, N.C. — Smith High School senior Jyi Dawkins has announced where he will play at the next level.
Dawkins, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, announced on Monday that he has committed to Wofford. Dawkins was previously committed to Western Carolina before making the switch to the Terriers.
The decision comes several weeks after Dawkins capped one of the most decorated prep careers in Guilford County history. This year, he became the county’s all-time leading scorer and sat 11th on the NCHSAA’s all-time scoring list entering the state playoffs.
Dawkins averaged 32.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.9 steals per game this season for Smith during the regular season. The Golden Eagles made it to the third round of the postseason before falling to Kings Mountain by one point, 69-68, back on March 2.
Smith head coach Derrick Partee praised Dawkins’ work ethic throughout the season.
“He works harder than any kid that I’ve ever coached, and continues to do so every day,” Partee told WFMY News 2 earlier this year. “When your best guy is your hardest worker, it makes it a lot easier for everybody else to play hard and work just as hard.”
Wofford is located in Spartanburg, S.C. and is a member of the Southern Conference. The Terriers finished the 2025-26 season with a 19-13 overall record.
Dawkins was ranked as the No. 295 overall player in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports’ composite rankings.
We/GreensboroSports first got to know this young man, back when he was playing for Coach Wil Perry, and the Southern Guilford Storm…They had the SG J3 Crew going on, down at Southern Guilford, with seniors Jamias Ferere, Jucqarie Love, and Jyi Dawkins back then…Ferere and Love were both seniors, and Jyi was just a sophomore back in those days…They led the SG Storm to the NCHSAA 3-A Regional Championship Game, at Hickory N.C. Then Jyi came over to Ben L. Smith High School, and helped take the Smith Golden Eagles to the 3-A Title in 2025…The kid has a complete game, and can do so many different things, and like Coach Partee said, Jyi Dawkins works as hard as any young basketball player that you will ever see…
Congrats and Keep Rolling JD….
