Hoppers' Line-8-8-1 Burgers' Line-4-7-0
Greensboro Grasshoppers improve to (32-18) with their victory, and the Hub City Spartanburgers fall to (25-24) with the loss…Hoppers also take a 4-1 lead in the Six-Game Series for this week at FNB Field…Hoppers have clinched the Series Victory, and could really close things out in a dominant fashion, with another home team Win, on Sunday afternoon…The Hoppers moved to (11-6) versus Hub City, for the 2025-2026 meetings…
So, how do you follow up a No-Hit Game??? Well, the Greensboro Grasshoppers proceeded to fall behind 3-0, on Saturday night at First National Bank Field, and with the Hub City Spartanburgers building a fairly decent lead, the Grasshoppers woke up and they merely “Burned the Burgers”…
It was a solid hit to deep right field, and by the time the smoke had cleared, the baseball had cleared the fence, and Greensboro’s Murf Gray had circled the bases, with three teammates leading him home, on his Grand Slam Home Run trot…The Hoppers trailed the Burgers, 3-0, at that stage of the game, with the visiting team out in front by those Three Big Runs, but that did not stop Murf Gray from putting a hurting on that baseball, on this important day…Gray’s Grand Slam put the Hoppers on top, and they would not trail again in this contest…
And you say Gray did all this, on this important day, and why was it so important??? Well, this was Makayla Allred’s 28th Birthday, and what better way to celebrate, than to have some Hoppers bring you some Burgers, and you get to Eat Up Those Burgers, and at the same time, enjoy your Birthday, with the best thing on Earth, on any day….A WIN…Yes, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win Again….
It took MORE than just the Murf Gray Grand Slam Home Run, but that sure did give the Greensboro Grasshoppers the boost they needed to defeat the Hub City Spartanburgers on Saturday evening…And boy, did those Burgers taste good again, and for the Fourth Time this week…
So, Gray got it going, and then in the Fourth Inning, after Murf’s outburst in the Third, it was Tony Blanco Jr., and Brian Sanchez going for Back-to-Back Doubles, and they both later score, and now the Hoppers led the Burgers, 6-3…In the Bottom of the Sixth Inning, the Hoppers were able to grab a commanding 8-3 advantage over the Burgers, when both Sanchez and Carlos Caro singled to get on board/base, and then it was Wyatt Sanford who also singled, and his Two-Run Single brought home Sanchez and Caro….
And after the end of Six Innings, the Greensboro Grasshoppers led the Hub City Spartanburgers, 8-3…The Burgers added a cosmetic run, with Luke Hanson’s solo Home Run in the Top of the Eighth Inning, and the Grasshoppers went on to top the Burgers, 8-4…
This has been a very positive and productive week for Greensboro Grasshoppers’ Baseball…Saturday Night was a very big night for Murf Gray, and he was our REMAX Revolution Player of the Game…He went 1-3/Grand Slam Home Run/4 RBI/Run…Carlos Caro was 2-3/BB/2 Runs…Brian Sanchez goes 2-4/Double/2 Runs/RBI…Wyatt Sanford had a steady night, going 1-3/BB/Run/2 RBI…Tony Blanco Jr. was also steady and ready with his 2-4/Double/Run night…Yordany De Los Santos was 0-3/BB/Run, while Edward Florentino went 0-3/BB…And that pretty much sums up the Greensboro Grasshoppers Offensive Night, right there…
REMAX Revolution Player of the Game for Murf Gray, and Player of the Game honorable mentions to Carlos Caro and Brian Sanchez, and also a special Player of the Game honorable mention for Maggie Basse, who joined us on the broadcast on Saturday night…And Maggie also hepled out the Hoppers’ No-Hit Victory on Friday night…Maggie had a good word or two for the Hoppers’ Winning Pitcher from Friday night’s game…She spoke with Carlson Reed right before Friday’s contest, and told him we needed a good pace, smooth-moving ballgame, and he responded by throwing Perfect Baseball through 7 Innings…Good input from Maggie, and even better output from Carlson Reed…
And like our key FNB Field center-section usher Bill had wondered, what would have happened if Reed would have been given the opportunity to come back out for the Eighth Inning, on Friday??? It is old school thinking and wishing, but part of us has to wonder, what if the players still had a green light to keep going, and could they go for Complete Games??? Times have changed, but Old School Baseball, and Old School Sports in general still has a few doors, that we all would still like to Open, and with those doors Open, we could see what might really be Inside…
We have to say the key at FNB, is that the Hoppers keep Winning…Hoppers winning pitcher/starter from Saturday, Bryan Mena, worked Five Innings, and he gave up 3 Runs, on 4 Hits, with 3 BBs/3 Ks…Victor Cabreja goes 2 Innings, and allowed 0 Runs, on 2 Hits, with 1 BB, and 2 Ks…Jose Garces worked 1 Inning, he gave up 1 Run, on 1 Hit, with 0 BBs, and 1 Ks…The Burgers’ Hanson got his Home Run, off of Garces…Daven Zeigler closed the game with his 1 Inning, and 0 Runs, on 0 Hits, with 2 BBs/1 K…Six Walks and Seven Strikeouts for the Hoppers’ pitching staff, on Saturday night…The Walks were a little high for my blood, and you don’t want high blood pressure, right???
The Burgers plated their 4 Runs, off of 7 Hits…Top hitters for the Burgers were their 2, 3, and 4 hitters, in Malcolm Moore, Luke Hanson, and Maxton Martin…Moore went 2-4/Run/RBI…Hanson goes 1-4/HR…And Martin was 1-4/Double/2 RBI…Hanson came up with his 36th RBI for the season, while the Hoppers’ Wyatt Sanford had 2 RBI, to go to 27 RBI for the year…The Hoppers hit Hub City starting pitcher Ismael Agreda hard, with Agreda going 5 Innings, and giving up 6 Runs, on 4 Hits, with 4 BBs/6 Ks, and Agreda served up Murf Gray’s Grand Slam Home Run…
For Hoppers around the park, you have to give it up to Todd Olson’s son…Saw him around 5:15, and the kid had his glove and was already ready to catch anything that might be coming his way during the game…The kid is focused and ready to play ball…Maggie was there with us on the broadcast, and we also send a Shout Out to Tony, for all he does around the ballpark…Also a Shout Out to Jeff Mills, the official scorer for the Greensboro Grasshoppers home games….
