Post 87 Falls 9-6 to Rowan County Legion Post 342
Rowan County Legion Post 342 jumped out fast on Tuesday, June 2, building a lead that held the rest of the night in a 9-6 win over the Post 87 HiToms at Finch Field.
Rowan struck for five runs in the opening inning, capitalizing on walks to Carter Durant and Brody Pope, followed by a two?run single from Luke Ponczka and an RBI single from Drew Pegram. They added two more in the second, building a 7-0 lead.
Post 87 answered in the bottom of the second with a four?run surge. Nathaneal Lorcack launched a two?run homer to right, Kyle Maness executed a sacrifice bunt to bring in another run, and Cooper Marks ripped an RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-4.
The HiToms’ final push came in the fifth when Tia Richmond sent a two?run homer to center, scoring the final runs for the Post 87 HiToms, who came up short in a 9-6 loss.
Rowan starter Kendal Sifford earned the win, working 5.2 innings with six hits, six runs (three earned), two strikeouts, and no walks. Jacob Prevette closed it out for the save.
Marks paced the Post 87 offense with two hits in four at?bats, while Richmond and Lorcack each drove in two runs. Defensively, Post 87 played a clean game with no errors, and Lorcack handled a team?high seven chances in the field.
Rowan County Legion Post 342 collected 13 hits overall. Jayven Parks, Ponczka, Cole Blevins, Durant, and Pegram all tallied two hits, with Ponczka finishing 2?for?4 and driving in four runs to lead the lineup.
