UNCG Athletics Announces Next Hall of Fame Class
UNCG Athletics Hall of Fame
GREENSBORO, N.C. –Seven former student-athletes will be honored in the fall 2026 class of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Athletics Hall of Fame, the department announced. The class will be inducted on Saturday, October 3, during a brunch ceremony on campus during UNCG’s Homecoming Weekend.
This year’s class includes:
Erin Chandler ’96, was a Big South Conference Player of the Year and Tournament Most Valuable Player in her four seasons on the softball team. Later, she was selected to the Big South Softball All-Decade Team. Erin continues to be ranked near the top of multiple UNCG pitching records, including wins, shutouts and innings pitched.
Scott Jones ’06, earned All-America honors three times in four men’s soccer seasons and was a four-time All-Region and four-time All-Southern Conference (SoCon) honoree. The midfielder had 25 goals and 41 assists in his career for 91 points, and his 41 helpers are fifth in UNCG career records.
Randi Patterson ’10, was a two-time All-American and twice earned SoCon Player of the Year honors as a forward on the men’s soccer team. He was a three-time All-SoCon pick. He finished his career with 61 goals and 9 assists for 141 points and was drafted by the Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls.
Chelsea Sumney Hartness ’13, competed in five NCAA events – three in cross country and two in outdoor track – in her career at UNCG. She earned a USTFCCCA All-Region Award and six All-SoCon honors.
Shaina Sumney Kernodle ’13, made five NCAA appearances as a cross country and track student-athlete and earned five All-SoCon honors in her career. Her name appears in the UNCG record books for several top 10 performances.
Joe Thompson ’12, had multiple NCAA appearances in cross country and outdoor track and earned three All-SoCon awards in cross country. He is among top 10 record holders for UNCG in multiple events.
Penny Thompson Moffitt ’03, was a SoCon Player of the Year and four-time All-Conference honoree in four seasons on the softball team. A third baseman/designated player, she finished her career as the conference’s all-time home run leader with 36 and led UNCG in several offensive categories.
As an NCAA Division I athletics program, UNCG was a member of the Big South Conference from 1992-97, when it joined the SoCon.
