We used to bring the old radio doctor, and that would Dr. Johnny Fever, and we would have to ask the “Good Doctor”, what is going on, over there on WSJS Radio?????
Winston-Salem has always been a Stinkin’ town, due to the tobacco smells, from the Tobacco Factories, but now something else is smelling, and it has reached the “Stinkin’ Stage” over there in around the dashboard at WSJS Radio, and they have become, “The Stinkin’ Station”….
Radio station that is, or wuz/was…
They have really cut their live programming to shreds, at what they have been calling, “The Triad’s News/Talk/Sports Station”…For those of you just arriving at the scene, and realizing you might not know what is going on, that makes a truckload of us, that don’t have a real clue, what they are trying to do, or what they are going to do, at WSJS Radio…
For those who just pooped or popped in here, we don’t have all the scoop, but we can for sure give you the poop….WSJS is and has been 600 AM on the radio dial for many years…They are also available at 93.7 FM in the Greensboro area…Over the years they have had Smitty Marshall, Smith Patterson, Glenn Scott, Jack LaFave, Bob Gordon, Beth Anne McBride, Mike Fenley, JJ Jeffries and others on their talk, sports and news programs…They never had “Dadio on the Patio”, and his show, but that is another story and era for another day…
What WSJS had, was Jeffrey Griffin doing a LIVE local morning show from 7-10am…Then they cut him back to 7-9am, and then they cut him loose altogether…Gone, no more Live and Local morning show…Waving the White Flag in the Morning Drive Time…
WSJS had a Live and Local afternoon sports show with Josh Graham as their host, and that show ran from 3-6pm…Then Josh Graham got a national radio show with Westwood One, and now you can still catch him late at night, if you remember to tune in…The Josh Graham afternoon show on WSJS was called, “The Drive”…
With Josh Graham gone, WSJS turned to his old producer Will Dalton, and set him up from 4-6, and had him continue on with, “The Drive”…In the very beginning WSJS had Will Dalton paired up with Steven Beck, for Dalton and Beck, on “The Drive”…But, that didn’t last much more than a week, and Beck was gone, and WSJS went back to the formula that had been working, and Will Dalton was THE HOST, of “The Drive”…And it sounded pretty good…At least it was Live and Local…
But as of this week, “The Drive” is no longer Alive, and this is NO Jive, when you tune in @ Five, you are in for a “Deep Dive”, because “The Drive” is GONE….That’s right, The Drive is LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG GONE…And Will Dalton is Done Daddy…
This is not a good move at all by WSJS Radio…They are killing, yes they are murdering and slaughtering the Live and Local Radio, as we knew it in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point market…Maybe there is a New Day Dawning, and we are missing something here…And, I will admit, I didn’t listen all the time, but it was good to be able to tune in when you needed to, or when you could, and be able to catch a LIVE and LOCAL Radio Show, and feel sort of like you knew the people behind the microphone…
It was a very good combination of, News/Talk/Sports, and WSJS was lucky to have Josh Graham come in, and see his show take off like it did…Jeffrey Griffin knows the market, Will Dalton was from Greensboro, and WSJS was doing a good job of hitting the area vibes…
WSJS still has Steven Beck with his “The Pulse Show”(9-10am), but that show is more like listening to live listings of area events, and does not dig very deeply into topics…You might just say, “Who the Heck is Steven Beck?”, and you might be saying, “Who the Heck was Steven Beck””, sooner than later…Wish him luck, and he is on Saturday mornings with another Live program called, and I may not hit this exactly right, but I think it is called, “Waking Up Proweled”…..Never have really figured out that title, but it is what it is, and it is still on, on Saturday mornings…Not must hear radio, but he is ‘keeping the needle moving’…..
WSJS is killing some good stuff they had going, and now they are going with pretty much NO Live and Local shows, and putting on more nationally syndicated programming, with Dan Patrick, Jim Rome, and Collin Cowherd shows…Good luck with that…The only national show they run, that I listen to, is The Todd Starnes Show…Starnes with very good political talk, and HE comes in LIVE from Memphis, Tennessee…
ROCK 92 does have Live Morning Talk, but it is more comedy, and they don’t hit much on the local topics of interest, because those guys and gal are not out in the community, and are not involved as much in the local process…The ROCK 92 Crew will be found out doing a Hot Dog review, or maybe trying to climb The Big SHOE down in Asheboro, at Walker’s Shoe Mall…
But, WSJS had some very good Live and Local shows, and now those shows are, LOOOOOOOOOOONG GONE….Hope they don’t drop their high school football man, Dave Polaski, for he has done a very good job over the years he has been at it…
Who knows, WSJS and their parent company, Truth Broadcasting, might be getting ready to sell the station and begin some sort of downsize…They have already killed their former local shows, and we must add in, Good Luck to Will Dalton, Jeffrey Griffin, and others from the local shows, as they try to get their new broadcasting directions, in order…
