Now a sanctioned North Carolina High School Sport, the excitement was in the air for the inaugural flag football games of 2026 season. Here is a recap of some of the scores in the Triad.
Southwest Guilford 31, Northwest Guilford 6
Southwest Guilford opened the scoring with a touchdown with just 6.7 seconds to play in the first half to take a 6-0 lead into the break. Midway through the 3rd quarter, the Cowgirls completed a 26 yard touchdown catch to make it 12-0. The Cowgirls tacked on a touchdown reception and extra point made it 19-0. Northwest got it rolling on their next drive as they went down and connected on a long touchdown to make 19-6 with 6:49 to play in the third, the Cowgirls came right back with a bubble screen to the right that went the length of the field for a 65-yard touchdown to make it 25-6. The Cowgirls would add a rushing touchdown to cap the scoring at 31-6. Final Southwest Guilford 31, Northwest Guilford 6
Northern Guilford 25, Northwest Guilford 18
A pass interference penalty as time expired in the first half gave Northern Guilford a untimed down and they cashed it in with a touchdown pass to take a 13-12 lead over the Vikings of Northwest Guilford into the intermission. The Nighthawks scored again in the third to take a 25-12 lead and looked in control. But with 8:20 to play the Vikings rushed for a long touchdown and all of sudden it was 25-18. Each team would put impressive drives together in the 4th quarter with Northwest getting a big stop of the Knighthawks deep in Northern territory. But Northwest’s ensuing possession ended with a 4th down incompletion with 16.9 seconds left. Final Northern Guilford 25, Northwest 18.
Southwest Guilford 38, Northern Nighthawks 6
The Cowgirls rushing attack would be the theme in this one. A long rushing touchdown to open the scoring with 3:40 to play in the first makes it 6-0. Southwest would add two long touchdown runs in the second quarter to build on the lead. The first came with 9:49 to play to make it 12-0. Another long touchdown run right before half made it 18-0 with 1:39 to play in the half. The Cowgirls would add long touchdown runs in the third and fourth quarter to pull away for a 38-6 win.
