Big numbers for James Summers(Page) and T.J. Logan(Northern Guilford) from last night….James with 152 rushing and 2 TD’s and then Summers had 184 yards passing and he also threw for two TD’s……Summers playing so much like Ricky Lewis Jr. did, when led the Panthers to their 3-AA Titles….Summers carrying the team and he hit numerous receivers last night, as he went to Brian Spain and Tevin Morrison for the touchdowns and he also connected/hooked up with Orlando Hatfield and Carter Greene for key receptions….
The word was the pass to Brian Spain in the right corner of the end zone, right before the end of the first half, the word was the ball was kicked up in the air by an Mallard Creek defender, before Spain jumped up in the air and pulled in the pass to give the Pirates the 21-19 lead….Word also was that Mallard Creek QB Andrew Goodman might have still been fighting off the effects of an injury that he suffered in the Myers Park game last Friday night…..Goodman still threw for over 200 yards(206) last evening….Page ran the ball for 229 yards……Page ‘D’ with Blake Hickman, Ed Britt, Savon Wall, Christian Cranford, Shaun Workinger, Grant Brewer, DeAnthony Brooks, Jacob Green and Johnathan Lynch were all very tough again last night…..
T.J. Logan ran that ball for 233 yards of ground duty last night and as a team, Northern Guilford was able to gain 277 yards versus Wilson Hunt….Daniel Downing scored one TD, as the NG QB took the ball in from 7 yards out, Logan ran for two scores to go along with his 233 yards and Tre Purcell ran for the other Nighthawk TD…..Big Kudos coming in from last night on the effort turned by the Northern Guilford offensive line with West, Klietsch, Simmons, Parker and Keen getting the job done up front for NG…..On defense for Northern it was Mitchell, Fields, Ripberger, Coltrane, Purcell, Parker and Johnson taking home special recognition…..A very well prepared Nighthawk team and the credit for that should go to Coach Roscoe and his staff, for the work that they turned in prior to the game…..Not a lot of passing for the Northern offense last night, but plenty of running, blocking and tackling to go around for the Purple and Black, as they bring back the East 3-AA Title to Greensboro, for the second year in a-row……
Andy, I want to thank you for covering these games. What a great job you are doing. Especially for the kids. You are putting the News and Record and Fox to shame. The News and Record did three lines in the paper about Northern. And that was from another news service. Fox sports has virtually ignored Northern Guilford the past 2 weeks. WRAL has done a better job than Fox and they are in Raleigh. WFMY at least did a video. They used WRAL’s video last week though. It will be interesting to see if they show up for the State Championship in Chapel Hill. Keep up the good work.
I agree the News & Record’s coverage of Northern Guilford’s playoff run has been subpar at best. For the last three Saturdays, the article on our games has been at the bottom of the Sports section underneath a huge, color picture of Page. With only two Greensboro teams left playing last night, you think they could have sent a photographer.
I am proud that two Guilford County schools will be vying for the State title next weekend! Let’s bring them both home to Greensboro!
Who’s fooling who? My opinion…The News and Record does not like Northern Guilford…I think it goes back to what happened to Robert Bell…. Why Fox won’t cover them is a mystery…last night I watched Fox sports and they mentioned NG and said they are rolling along…they said at the end of the news cast….oh yeah by the way NG is playing for the championship…are you kidding me? …I use to like Fox sports..not now..lost all respect…
I’m looking at today’s News & Record and there is a lot more than “three lines” on the game in the paper, so I’m not sure what the paranoid conspiracy theorist Northern fans are smoking. There may only be three lines or so on their website, where they only put some of their content (Ed Hardin’s columns almost never show up online), but there is a story in the paper that’s at least as long as the Page story. (Maybe you were too cheap to actually buy a paper?) You should check it out. Some nice quotes from Logan and Roscoe, as well as Downing.
The first place I went to this morning was the News and Record on-line and the did only have just two or three lines on the Northern Guilford-Wilson Hunt game from last night….Paul Durham was the writer and they used the same article from the hard copy of the paper and put that on-line from Paul Durham, but on-line they only gave the two to three sentences for some reason….Ran the full article on PAGE on-line and in the N&R Saturday edition, but just went full on Northern in the newspaper edition….I got my hard copy at the library and read the full coverage on NG from there……
I saw the same thing you were saying this morning and I’m glad someone spoke out about it, so we could talk about it here….Might be a good idea to go back and add the full content on NG on-line….
We try to cover all the teams as equally as possible and that is why if you see a lead-in post on Page’s opponent for next week(Garner) you will see one on Northern’s opponent too(Crest)….And visa versa…..
Thanks Andy for confirming what I’ve been saying all along. It’s all positive about Page and tons of coverage. When bias is present and a fan speaks up it creates controversy. Then it’s all negative about NG. Maybe that’s what they want. Pretty bad if you ask me.
You guys forget page beat northern therefore we deserve more of the shine page hasnt been to states in 26 years it’s big that they are there now
Pirate nation…there were 5 of NG’s starters out that game including Downing and Logan…You can’t tell me Page had the advantage…if Sommers was out…Page wouldn’t have chance against NG….
@NG Fan. So you trying to say five men can stop the show. Although I honestly don’t believe that many men were out. Oh and for your fyi we had two games that James didn’t play almost 3 quarters. BUT before you get all huffy and trying to throw all these “facts” up think about this. Even with all of Northern’s at 100%. I still don’t think they could have beat Butler or Mallard Creek. Not only did Page beat those teams, but they beat them by more then Mallard Creek beat Butler. So Northern I think it’s best y’all stay in your little 3A bracket.
3A? That’s like asking who won the the Triple A crown in baseball. Nobody cares.
