ODAC Record Falls, Greensboro College Women’s Swimming in 4th Place at Conference Championship

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — With one day of the ODAC Championships in the book, The Pride women’s swim team sits in fourth place in the nine team field.
Senior Emma Phillips earned the team’s first ODAC event championship in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:09.62, which broke the conference and meet record. The previous conference record was set by Susan Mahoney of Washington & Lee in 2009 at 2:10.71.

Phillips also teamed up with Dani Horne, Lauren Fisher and Taylor White to place fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:48.55) and the 400 yard medley relay (4:25.84).

Also scoring individually was Taylor in the 200 yard IM with a 13th place time of 2:34.46, Fisher in the 200 yard IM in 16th at 2:43.18 and Horne in the 50 yard freestyle in ninth place with a time of 25.50.

Greensboro finished the night with 90 points, just six points behind third place Bridgewater. Washington & Lee hold the top spot with Randolph-Macon coming in at number two.

“We had an amazing evening,” said head coach Scot Budde. “Both relays swam much faster than I could have hoped. Taylor and Lauren scored points for us in the IM, an event neither swam last year. Dani had a great race by winning the consolation heat of the 50, and Emma took down an ODAC record. All of our swimmers feel confident and ready to take on Saturday’s and Sunday’s events.”

Day two of the three day championships will be held on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Pride will have a number of swimmers competing in the morning prelims with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.
