Winston-Salem is going to be back in the ice hockey business, with the Federal Hockey League. A press release indicates the un-named team will start in 2017. The Federal Hockey League has a Northern base. Winston-Salem will have LOOONG Road Trips as most team are near Detroit and north of New York City.
Banging on the glass seems to be a major part of Ice Hockey. Only problems is that if you aren’t careful; you might get banged back! That is exactly what happened this kid. As he banged against the glass, a played was checked into the exact spot he was banging. One of Greensboro’s Sports Legends – Nick Vituci is still in hockey, now he is the Coach of the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. A friend sent me this link to a story on the 44 year old former Greensboro Goaltender.
Anyone in the Triad area is interested in playing in the Piedmont Hockey Association (rec league – high school age and up), there is an Open House (and open hockey) tonight at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum annex. You may print the registration form. Games will be played on Tuesday nights from Oct. 30 into March (with a few exceptions).
