Former Ragsdale Tiger, and the son of Ragdale Tigers’ football coach Johnny Boykin, Devan Boykin has picked up a very big award from the N.C. State football team…Devan, was still just a freshman this past season and he made the most of his extra eligibility… Safety Devan Boykin was named the Philip Rivers Most Valuable Freshman. Boykin played a vital role in the team’s defensive success and on special teams. In the win over Boston College, he prevented a score with a big breakup in the endzone and then added some points of his own with a “scoop and score”…

The Northern Guilford Nighthawks dominated the first half of Friday night’s game with Ragsdale at Johnny Roscoe Stadium, but in the second half, the Nighthawks let the Tigers back in the game with penalties and weak offense. In the first quarter, the Ragsdale offense failed to get momentum. Northern’s punt defense was tackling the Ragsdale punter Bradley Tullar before he could get the kick off in what appeared to be a rugby-style kick instead of a punt. This set up Northern’s first scoring drive of the game. The Nighthawks started on the Tigers’ 49-yard line and drove down field with…

Two Grimsley seniors, Born Lesane and Rob Dalton, stepped up big for the Whirlies on Friday night and sparked the Grimsley Whirlies to a 34-21 victory over the Ragsdale Tigers at Kenneth Miller Stadium in Jamestown. With starting RB Quan Nora sidelined for the Whirlies with injuries, senior Born Lesane rushed for more than 140 yards and a touchdown and controlled the running game for Grimsley. Rob Dalton had two interceptions – one a pick six – and a receiving touchdown in the victory. Grimsley controlled the clock on a 15-play drive that lasted just under seven minutes in the…
Malachi Maness’ four touchdown runs led the Ragsdale Tigers to a decisive 34-13 victory over the home Grimsley Whirlies at Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro on Friday night. Maness struggled early. The Ragsdale star back fumbled the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage, his third touch of the game, and another when he looked sure to score in the first quarter. All resulted in turnovers. The fumbles didn’t slow him down, however, as he ran for more than 100 yards in the first quarter and put up the game’s first touchdown. “The ball was real slippery,” Maness said of his fumbles. “I…
Southeast Guilford came into Friday’s game the favorite against Ragsdale, having beat Northwest just two weeks ago. But it was the Tigers who came away victorious in their 2016 homecoming game. The Tigers, led by their special teams, scored 18 unanswered points in the first half, and returned a kickoff in the fourth quarter to topple the Falcons, 25-22. Southeast jumped out to an early lead and looked to be dominant as their wing-T offense ran all over the Tigers in the first quarter. With 1:01 remaining in the opening frame, Miles Fairley ran the ball into the end zone…

After a bye week, Ragsdale was back in action Friday with an important Piedmont Triad Conference battle with the Glenn Bobcats in Kernersville. Courtesy of Mike Ellis from the Jamestown News(www.womacknewspapers.com): Homecoming was a bad night for the winless Parkland Mustangs to come to Jamestown to face the unbeaten Ragsdale Tigers. On a perfect night for football and with a capacity crowd on the home side of the stands, the Tigers kept their perfect record intact with a 29-0 victory. It did not, however, start out as a walkover. After two consecutive games in which the offense dominated the line of scrimmage and ran the ball with great success, the Tigers could not sustain a drive, had difficulty picking up a first down…
