The Page Pirates are coming after Grimsley

The Page Pirates are looking to catch the Grimsley Whirlies this football season and they plan on doing it with with a kid whose dad is the AD at Grimsley. Can Lewis Newman the Whirlie atheltic director be trusted? Sure he can but his son Will Newman is the man you better be looking out for if you are a Whirlie.

Page lost runningback Larry Johnson to graduation but the Pirates return senior D.J. McNeil 5’9, 185 with 4.5 speed in the 40. McNeil got a load of carries in 2006 and by having Newman in the backfield with him, Page will be able to run or throw the ball. If pressured, Newman can tuck and run the ball, he can cover the 40 in 4.6 seconds.

Page will be more than just Newman and McNeil. Erik Barnard is one of the area’s top receivers and many colleges are watching to see what kind of numbers he puts up this season. On defense, Calvin Stout is considered by many observers to be the best all-around player on the team. Stout, a defensive back, will play behind LB’s Dequay Thigpen and Demarcus Ferguson.

Page has a very tough early-season schedule with non-conference matchups against RJ Reynolds, Northeast Guilford, Lee County, Ragsdale, Dudley, and Davie County. I wonder who put together that group of games?(Rusty Lee AD) Page-Grimsley, for all the marbles, comes up on October 12th.

Grimsley and Page are picked to finish 1-2 in the NCPreps.com pre-season standings. The Metro conference goes #1 Grimsley, #2 Page, #3 East Forsyth, #4 High Point Central, #5 Northwest Guilford, and #6 Smith. Jamar Rease of Grimsly has been tabbed as the pre-season Player-of-the-Year. Rease is a defensive lineman(DE) and he is quick as a cat.

Can the Pirates catch the Whirlies? October 12th will be here before you know it.
