A 14 member team from Greensboro Palomino Baseball will be heading to St. Thomas Monday to play in a week long tournament in the tropical islands. The team will return to Greensboro the following Monday. What other organization takes care of their loyal players with an all expense paid trip. The team will be coached by the Guilford Patriots Justin and Johnny Smith.
The team is made up of Palomino players who have played in the league 2 seasons along with fall ball. This is a way to say thank you. They are guaranteed 5 games while on Tuesday they will
have scout day with major league scouts and college coaches present. Teams will be from Miami, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Greensboro, St. Thomas and I think New York and another team from Florida.
This trip has been in the making for over 6 months and most of the families of the players are going as well. Thanks to Greensboro Palomino Baseball for what they do for the young men in our area.
Who chose the players? It seems as though there would be more than fourteen players that would be eligible to participate.
there would be more than 14, but johnny only had that many players from his team who were able to go. the trip is not a reward to the players, it’s a reward to johnny and palomino management!
It does look as if the people that respond to these blogs would atleast have a clue to what they are talking about. They need to have some kind of knowlegde about what is going on.. A number of players were asked but could not go because of school or family matters. I think only 5 Patriots are going, 3 from GAPP, 3 from the Elks, 2 from the Shockers and 1 from the Spirits. From what I heard 5 of the players asked to go declined because of conflicts. Sounds like eeryone is jealous of the Patriots. Maybe the Patriots will not be in the league next year where someone else could win.
So how were the players chosen?
probably the way the second guy said.
MY SON WAS ONE OF THE BOYS CHOSEN FOR THE TRIP TO ST.THOMAS AND HE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JOHNNY SMITH. SO GROW UP AND QUIT BLAMING SOMEONE ELSE B/C YOUR SON DID NOT GET CHOSEN.
Greensboro beat Miami Elite yesteerday 4-3. Jody Calloway pitched a 4 hitter striking out an amazing 17. Jody was clocked at times at 90 mph. Travis Neal’s bunt hit in the bottom of the seventh and Billy Owen’s bases loaded single enabled Greensboro to come from behind to win the game. Greensboro’s defense was a little shakey committing 3 costly errors early in the game. Greensboro plays St. Thomas All Stars today at 4;00. They play the Tampa Bay Hitmen on Thursday and then start championship play on Friday. Everyone is having a great time and our hotel is right on the Caribbean Sea. Absolutely beautiful.
Why must some always find fault in everything done.Instead of supporting the kids that went you are bashing the coaches. Is this because of your own short comings or just jealous.I have son on the team and he was asked to go because others were not alble to go. All that needs to be said is …”GO GREENSBORO”
WOW! PROUDMOM and T N, who was complaining? I went back and read the responses again, and while I saw the questions about how the team was chosen, I didn’t see the part about complaining. I must admit, I am still wanting to know how the selections were done, and who got to go, but it has nothing to do with complaining, or blaming, or jealousy; it’s just curiousity. With no disrespect intended to either of you, I think you are trying to read something into this thread that just doesn’t exist. Oh, and GO GREENSBORO!
DEAR DAVID, APPARENTLY ON THE SITUATION ON THE TOPIC OF JOHNNY SMITH YOU SOUND JEALOUS NOT CURIOUS. I ALSO WENT BACK AND READ THE COMMENTS AND THIS IS HOW I CAME UP WITH YOU MUST HAVE A PROBLEM WITH JOHNNY SMITH. WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS TAKING AWAY FROM THE BOYS THAT WERE CHOSEN TO TAKE A TRIP DUE TO THE COMMITMENT TO PALIMINO BASEBALL. I SUGGEST IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON HOW,WHY AND WHO WAS CHOSEN PLEASE CALL BOB DOSS TO GET THE ANSWER FIRST HAND. THANKS
Okay, I must ask. Do you mean in this thread or elsewhere? In this thread, my only comment before you starting yelling was “So how were the players chosen?” In another thread, I asked for a list of schools that the Patriots draw players from. What are you looking at? I don’t know Johnny at all, so I won’t speak negatively about him. From what I have seen from the stands, he is a great guy doing a great job with a good bunch of kids. I can’t say that any plainer. And how am I taking away from the kids? I’ll say again: I would still like to know who went on the trip. I think it’s a simple request; if you don’t know or don’t want to answer, just say so. There’s no need in making a call to Mr. Doss, as I think he has more important things to worry about. Someone here knows who went and will post eventually. In the meanwhile, I’ll say again: GO GREENSBORO!
DAVID, I AM NOT YELLING AT YOU I AM TIRED OF THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT THIS TEAM. MAYBE I SHOULD BE ADRESSING CHUCK AND DICK INSTEAD OF YOU. THE OLD SAYING IS YOU HANG WITH A DOG YOU GET CALLED A DOG AND I ASSOCIATED YOU WITH THEM. THE REASON I SUGGESTED CALLING MR. DOSS IS BECAUSE THE TRUE STORY WILL BE TOLD. IF YOU GET THE QUOTE ANSWER FROM THE COMMENTS LEFT ON THE WEB SITE THEY MAY NOT BE ACCURATE. FOR EX: THE COMMENT DICK HERTZ LEFT IS SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH. I CAN’T GIVE YOU EVERY BOYS NAME THAT WENT ON THE TRIP B/C I DON’T HAVE THAT INFORMATION. HOWEVER SOMEONE GAVE THE ANSWER OF 5 FORM JOHNNY’S TEAM AND SO ON. WAS THIS NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION FOR YOU? WHY DO YOU WANT EVERY BOYS NAME? SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION I DON’T KNOW. I AM JUST A PROUD MOM.
Johnny Smith was picked to coach the team because he won the league the previous year. That is how the coach is chosen. Here are the list of players: Travis Neal, A.J.Allen, Clay Carmichael, Steven Ray Todd, Ryan Green, Aaron Lowdermilk, Ben Brandon, Billy Owens, Nick Lanning, Nick Rogers, John Neese, Jody Calloway, Esterlin Paulino and Lester Rivenbark.
thanks jeff sounds like a real good team from what ive seen during the year and proudmom keep feeling proud you should does dick hertz have a son that wasnt asked to go just like to know
Thanks Jeff. What a great bunch of guys and players. Everyone should be proud of this group. Results have been awesome to this point, and I hope it continues. Good luck guys.
THANK YOU DAVID, JEFF, AND JERRY FOR THE POSITIVRE COMMENTS. WE ARE ALL VERY PROUD OF THIS TEAM.
