Northern Guilford Nighthawks start strong

Northern Guilford 29-Bartlett Yancey 0
Northern Guilford 7-West Davidson 0
That’s the word I got last night on the Nighthawks in their first outing as a new football team. Northern Guilford is now 2-0 after Thursday night’s 7-0 win over West Davidson. The Nighthawks are off to the best start in school history and Johnny Roscoe should be in line for Coach of the Year.(First-year coach, first-year school, but this a super start)

Johnny Roscoe must be pushing these kids hard and it looks like it is paying off. Northern is playing Junior Varsity games only this year and the man who shared this info with us is one of the NGHS assistant basketball coaches.

Johnny Roscoe has his guys rolling and it won’t be long until we’ll be hearing about Sharon Park’s volleyball team, Stan Kowaleski’s basketball boys and Kim Furlough’s girls hoops. We should not forget that former Western Guilford assistant baseball coach Johnny Smith will have his men on the diamond as soon as the weather breaks(Winter to Spring).

  1. Just curious…when did the Nighthawks play SW? They are not listed on the SW schedule of events. I also looked at The Nighthawks schedule and it only shows thier games so far as being against HP Central and Bartlett Yancey.
Thanks for your help and good luck to The Nighthawks. It must be exciting to be a part of a new program!

  2. The win could have come vs. Bartlett Yancey. I would take them over HP Central or Southwest Guilford. SWG should have been playing Northwest in week one, but sometimes the fans and coaches get games confused, but we heard that Northern won and let’s just say for now it was against BY, that would tend to make more sense.

  3. No lock on who they played in game one, but game two is toinght(Thursday August 23) against West Davidson. Game time is set for 8pm and the game will be played at Western Guilford. Coach Johnny Roscoe has his Nighthawks on the move and he may call on Johnny Smith to throw in a helping hand. I heard earlier that Roco Scarfone’s son was going to be the Northern QB and little Rocky was the star QB at Kernodle Middle School last year.

  4. The News and Record had an article today and stated that it was BY that Northern beat the first game of the season.

  5. BY it is and we made the adjustment on the original story.. Thanks for the info and let’s they(NGHS) keep on winning.

  6. let’s go nightkawks we are da best let go!!!!!!!!!
