Tyler Woods ran for 132 yards on 16 carries and scored 4 touchdown’s to pace Northeast as the Rams ran wild in a 42-9 win over the visiting Eastern Guilford Wildcats. Kendall Bratcher added a 37yd punt return to open the scoring and Trevor Bush added a 26yd run as Northeast’s starters played only 2 ½ quarters.
Woods got his first score with just under a minute to go in the opening period as his 2yd blast completed a 13 play 73yd six and a half minute march that gave Northeast a 14-0 lead. Eastern then used a pit of tomfoolery to trip up the Rams as after returning the ensuing kickoff to the 40 Josh Morehead caught tailback Lamar Dixon’s Halfback pass for a 60yd touchdown, but the ensuing extra point was missed leaving Eastern eight points behind after the first period of play. Morehead was the only consistent facet of the Wildcats attack as he also had several other nice kick returns along with picking off a Kendall Bratcher pass just before intermission.
But before we could get to the half Tyler Woods thundered 29 yards to complete a quick 3 play 45 yard march as Northeast extended their lead to 21-6. After a short 22 yard FG by Eastern, Northeast responded with their second drive of the game over 10 plays as a 12 play 65 yard drive ended with Woods getting his 3rd score to make it 28-9 at intermission.
After the restart Northeast made quick work of the Wildcats to end any hope of a rally as a 5 play 80 yard march that ended in Trevor Bush breezing his way to a 26yd score was quickly followed up by 3 play 58 yard march that led to Woods final score of the night to conclude the scoring as Coach Pursley started pulling his starters on both sides of the ball soon thereafter.
Northeast moves to 2-0 Eastern drops to 1-2.
