High School Football Roundup

Ragsdale topping Page and Eastern Guilford thumping Western like they did in the 4th quarter caught my attention when I looked at the games from Friday evening.

Eastern trailed WG 21-14 headed into the final period but the Wildcats out-scored the Hornets 21-0 to hand Western it’s first loss of the season. Final:EG takes it 35-21.(EG coach Scott Loosemore said never liked WG in fact he hated them back in the ’80’s) Ragsdale intercepted four Page Pirate second-half passes to seal a 22-14 win for the Tigers in Jamestown. Ogi Overman of the Jamestown News was there for AM950/Greensborosports.com.

Dennis White was on hand for us down at Sumner where Southeast came in and calmed the Storm by using a fake punt for a score that proved to be the difference in the 13-6 Falcon victory. William Graves ran one back 80 yards for SG for their only TD but the big pass from Terrence Topps to Teyrell Anderson on that fake punt was the game-changer. Justin Venable stood out on offense and defense for SEG.

Northeast Guilford stayed unbeaten and moved to 3-0 with their 28-6 win over Northwest. Paul Lambeth will have full details for us later here at Greensborosports.com.(Zack Moore is one heck of a kicker for NEG) Grimsley defeated HP Andrews 27-6 to go to 4-0 and the Whirlies beat HPA much worse than that final score would indicate. Take away some of the GHS costly penalties and the Whirlies would have won this game 44-0. QB Zach Maynard is very steady, Keenan Allen is Keenan Allen, a superstar in the making, La La Brown and David Ray were a strong supporting cast on offense and on defense James Hinson Jr. is a thumper, he will knock you down, Jack Schultz is looking good along with Seth O’Dell and James Scales III is another Whirlie that is coming on quickly. Linemen Michah Daub and Jordan Patterson are very reliable players up front.

In other area games High Point Central took it on the chin falling hard to Wake Forest-Rolesville 43-16 and we thank our man Greg Johnson for calling us with the updates on AM950. Ledford hit for two early TD’s and Southwest Guilford could never recover falling 14-10 to the Panthers. Kicker Tyler Naron is still playing well for the Cowboys. *****Don’t forget Smith vs. Dudley toinght at 6pm at Jamieson Stadium on the Grimsley campus.*****
