Winchester, Va. — Michael McDuffie scored a career high 21 points and made a crucial three-point play in the last minute as Greensboro College defeated Shenandoah in a USA South quarterfinal game. The Pride is seeded sixth in the tournament and the Hornets third.
SU rallied from a 17 point deficit to cut the GC lead to 60-59 with 45 seconds remaining. McDuffie then got fouled on a jump shot that went in. He converted the free throw with 26 seconds left for the game’s final points. The Hornets later had 2 three-point attempts that were off the mark.
McDuffie was 7-9 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line. Adam Nicholson had 19 points for The Pride. Josh Brown grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
SU edged GC in the battle of the boards 36-35. The Pride shot 47-percent (23-53) to 33-percent (17-52) for the Hornets.
Jeremiah Lawrence had 19 points and 11 boards to lead Shenandoah.
