The Southeast Guilford Falcons picked up two wins, 7-1 over SWR on Thursday and then SEG topped Western Guilford 5-2 Friday afternoon in the Graham Easter Tournament at the Graham Middle School. SEG moves to (8-1) while WG falls to (6-2) with losses on Friday to SEG and also to Rockingham County 6-0 back on Thursday. SEG will be in action again this evening at the Graham Easter Tournament with tonight’s contest getting under way at around 7pm. Freshman Josh Tobias was the winning pitcher for SEG on Friday and Trey Gilmore got the save. Austin Moyer and Jeff Medley came through for the Falcons at the plate.
Dudley handcuffed Northern Guilford for most of the game on Friday night and ended up beating the Nighthawks 16-3. The score was 16-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth and the winning pitcher, lefty Reuben Torellas, finished off NG(1-5) before the Nighthawks could extend the game beyond four-and half-innings. Ronnie Burkes, Doug Sigmon, Lenwood Hargroves, and Ray Crawford all hit the ball hard for the Dudley Panthers(4-2) in the victory. Dudley was set to face off with the Thomasville Bulldogs today at 11:30am in the Grimsley Easter Tournament. Thomasville has EJ Abrams-Ward and they say he is a top-notch baseball prospect and that he could go very high in this summer’s MLB draft.
Northwest Guilford routed Smith 11-2 with Robbie McIntosh, Logan Self, and Alex Swim leading the Vikings(4-3) to the win. The Smith Golden Eagles fall to (1-6). For NWG, McIntosh got the win on the hill and he had two hits as did Self and Swim. High Point Wesleyan took two wins at the Dual Diamond Easter Tournament. HPW at (6-0) is the area’s only remaining unbeaten team unless we bring North Davidson and Tyler Hanover into the mix. For HPW, Michael Dimock continues to be the man with three hits and 4RBI’s in the game one win, 11-1 over Tattnall, Virginia and Dimock was the winning pitcher for HPW in game two, a 15-5 Trojan victory over Cave Springs. Will Meyers and Tyler Hickernell also had solid days for the Trojans in the tournament being played at the Ernie Shore Field in Winston-Salem. Dimock might be the top player in our area right now, playing even better recently than Garrison Lassiter at West Forsyth.
The Southwest Guilford Cowboys ran into some very tough oppositon when they met the Reagan Raiders with Reagan coming away with a 6-1 win. Elliot Slack, the brother of Andrew Slack who I heard was going to UNCG, was the only Cowboy to cause a stir at the plate.
Grimsley(4-4) saw one get away when the Whirlies were committng way too many errors over at East Forsyth on Thursday and the Eagles topped the Whirlies 4-3. Roby Swab hit the game-winning home run and pitcher Ryan Dull grabbed the win for EF. Matt Nettesheim hit a solo home run for Grimsley. Grimsley is back in action on Saturday night versus Burlington Williams at the Grimsley Easter Tournament with game time set for 7pm.
SW struggled at the plate on Friday with Jeff Gilley, Bo Rein and Brett Underwood being the only Cowboys with a hit. They each had one. Elliot reached base on BB’s but I don’t recall him having a hit. He did however have a great game behind the plate for the Cowboys. His brother is Warren Slack who pitches for UNC-G.
