We only have a few scores from this past weekend with HP Wesleyan stopping Oxford Webb 14-0 on Friday at the Orange County Easter Tournament. Two of the young men we have been following closely, Michael Dimock and Tyler Hickernell, paced the Trojans to the victory over the 3-A Webb Warriors who are almost always led by Antwan Thorpe in football, basketball, and baseball.
Dimock was the winning pitcher and he is now (4-0) while HPW improves to (8-1). Hickernell went 2-2 with a HR and 4RBI’s.
Southwest Guilford played three over the weekend with the Cowboys going 1-2 and they stand at (6-6) overall for the season. All of the games were non-conference matchups with Randleman, Asheboro, and Southwest Randolph. SWG lost 3-2 to the Randleman Tigers, SWG fell 7-6 to the Asheboro Blue Comets, and the Cowboys earned a 3-0 shut out win over the Cougars from Southwestern Randolph. Ethan Ogburn was the winning SWG in the victory over SWR. In the loss to Asheboro, Bo Rein was the losing Cowboy pitcher, but the starter for SWG, Esterlin Paulino, was credited with 10 strikeouts. Brett Underwood was 2-4 and Rein was 3-4 for SWG in the Asheboro game. In the SWG loss to Randleman, Jeremy Hall was 1-3 with a key RBI and starting pitcher Blaine McCraw struck out 10 Tiger batters in 6 innings of work.
The Smith Golden Eagles saw their record jump up to (4-6) with wins last week over WS Carver and WS Atkins. Smith roughed up Atkins 16-3 with LA Allen, Avery Hardy, Charles Glover, and Quentin Barr raising the bar for the Eagles. Barr was the winning pitcher for Smith, he had a complete game with 7K’s vs. the Camels. Barr also had two hits, scored 2 runs, had 2RBI’s and he stole 4 bases. Smith is raising that bar and the “Q” Barr had a career-day against Atkins.
We remind you once again, that the BIG GAME is on Tuesday at SEG. The Mid-Piedmont matchup for all the marbles, which is a baseball game between Ragsdale(12-1/5-0) and Southeast Guilford(9-2/5-0), gets under way at 6pm.
