Justin King scored 4 goals and had 2 assists as Christopher Newport (8-5) held off a late rally and defeated Greensboro College (3-9), 13-11, at Pride Field on Saturday.

Kirk Beville had 3 goals and Chris Duffy scored twice for The Pride.

Greensboro trailed 11-6 with just 15:54 left in the game. Duffy, however, tallied with 33 seconds left in the period. The then Pride recorded the first 4 scores of the final period and trailed 11-10 with 9:20 remaining.

Yet the Captains responded with tallies from Ryan Merrell and King. GC’s Jose Rodriguez netted the match’s final score off an assist from Neal McKinney with 2:20 on the clock.

The Pride out-shot the Captains, 44-36. GC also led in ground balls (28-22), and face offs (17-28). The home team, however, gave up 4 extra man goals on 13 attempts, while converting 1-5 of its man-up chances.

Mike Foderaro had 12 saves for the home club and Matt Miller had the same number for CNU.
