East-West All-Stars Basketball notes…..

The HS basketball games are coming up Monday night at the Greensboro Coliseum and some of the boys to watch out for are Kendall Smith from Kernersville Glenn, Marcus Wright out of Winston-Salem Prep(both Smith and Wright representing the West), Big 7’1 Ty Walker from Wilmington New Hanover, Bo Ingram out of Kinston and Hunter McClintock originally from Burlington Williams but most recently from Northern Durham.(Walker, Ingram, and McClintock are on the East squad)

For the young ladies we have kids from the West we want to talk about and they are Trumae Lucas and Krystin Fields both from Phil Weaver’s Grimsley Whirlies, Tyisha Bridges from Southwest Guilford and Secily Ray of Thomasville.

Tyisha Bridges
Tyisha…Southwest Guilford High…5-9…guard…coached by Duane Willis…as senior, named All-Conference, Conference Player of the Year, All-High Point Enterprise, All-Northwest…averaged 17.6 points, 4.2 steals, 3.8 rebounds…as junior, named All-Conference, All-Northwest…as sophomore, named All-Conference…also competed in track and field where she was named All-Conference…member of chorus…signed an athletic grant-in-aid with Norfolk State University where she will major in communications…plans to pursue a career in the WNBA…her father is her role model…her favorite college athlete is Tyler Hansborough…favorite pro athlete is Kobe Bryant…says “I am very honored to play in this game. It’s a great accomplishment. I expect to gain more knowledge and to just have fun.”

Krystin Fields
Krystin…Grimsley High…5-11…forward…coached by Phil Weaver…as senior, named All-Conference, All- District 7…averaged 13.4 points, 3 steals, 6 rebounds…as junior, named All-Conference…as sophomore, named All-Conference…twice named All-Conference in volleyball…signed an athletic grant-in-aid with Towson University where she will major in nursing…would like to pursue a career in the WNBA and then as a registered pediatric nurse…her mother and brother are her role models…her favorite college athlete is Candace Parker…favorite pro athlete is Ray Allen…says “I am really excited about playing in the East-West game. I hope to get to know the other girls and experience the opportunity to play in a very competitive game.”

Trumaé Lucas
Trumaé…Grimsley High…5-9…guard…coached by Phil Weaver…as senior, named All-Conference, North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star selection, Steak and Shake AM 950 Player of the Year, Little Four Tournament MVP, Conference Tournament MVP, team MVP…as junior, named All-Conference, Western Regional Conference MVP, Conference Tournament MVP, 4A State Championship Most Outstanding Player…as sophomore, named All-Conference, Conference All-Tournament, Flow Athlete of the Week, Conference Player of the Year, 4A Player of the Year…member of National Technical Honor Society…Scholar Athlete…Superior Achievement and Excellence of Performance in Business…signed an athletic grant-in-aid with the University of Florida where she will major in sports management…wants to pursue a career playing ball overseas…favorite college athlete is Candace Parker…favorite pro athlete is LeBron James…says “It will be another great experience , and I’m looking forward to playing against some of the best in the state.”

Secily Ray
Secily…Thomasville High…6-0…guard…coached by Lacardo Means…as senior, named All-Conference, Conference Player of the Year, All-Northwest, All-Area, team MVP…averaged 20.5 points, 9 rebounds…as junior, named All-Conference, All-Area…member of National Honor Society, AB Honor Roll, Spanish Club, Student Council…signed an athletic grant-in-aid with Wake Forest where she will major in sports medicine…wants to pursue a career as a physical therapist…Delaney Rudd is her role model…her favorite college athlete is Candace Parker…favorite pro athlete is Vince Carter…says “I am very excited about being selected to the all-star team, and I expect to gain some friends and be able to adapt to playing with new teammates.”
