State-Wide College Football Top Ten

I will try and make this quick and painless. Last year, each week I featured the Top Ten at the site and others such as Doug Clark of the News and Record and Ron Green Jr. of the Charlotte Observer have Top Tens. Green’s has been around for many years and it runs on Saturdays in the Charlotte paper.

This is the official State-Wide College Football Top Ten and you will ask, “why aren’t some teams ranked higher?” They don’t deserve to be. Go out and do something special and you will get the push.

Right now Wake Forest is getting the push and Jim Grobe is currently in the ESPN studios doing every type of show in sight. ESPN radio, ESPN 2, ESPN on-line; right now Tuesday September 9 and Jim Grobe is there and so is Wake Forest.

If you want to see the real deal bad enough, you can walk to the Demon Deacon games. Just stay off of the main highway and walk in on 421 South and head down Martin Luther King Blvd. and take Highway 52 to the Stadium.

Wake Forest, this is your team Triad, so let the LOVE show through.

State-Wide Top Ten:
#1) Wake Forest(2-0)…This is the Triad’s team. We have a state NFL team in the Carolina Panthers and I can handle that, but Wake Forest is the Triad’s top-level team and ALL need to fall in line. Gene Hackman said it and you need to listen, “This is YOUR TEAM”.

#2) East Carolina(2-0)…Very close to Wake and I would actually pay $2.00 out of my own pocket to watch ECU and WFU play this Saturday. I am booked up with public appearances after that. Remember, I don’t care about national polls, this is the only poll that counts.

#3) N.C. A&T(2-0)…The Aggies are back with wins over Johnson C. Smith and Winston-Salem State and you all said that Coach Lee Fobbs couldn’t get it done.(I said it too, and I like this crowd.)

#4) Guilford College(2-0)…Very impressive win on Saturday in the Soup Bowl vs. Greensboro College. Quaker QB Josh Vogelbach passed for 340 yards and 2TD’s.

#5) Appalachian State(1-1)…The Mountaineers evened their record at (1-1) with that 56-7 victory over Jacksonville.

#6)TIE:UNC-Pembroke(2-0) and Lenior Rhyne(2-0)…The Braves have defeated Brevard 28-0 and Davidson 21-9. The LR Bears have rolled in their first two games.

#8)UNC-Chapel Hill(1-0)…Heels won their opener over McNeese State and now face Rutgers on the road Thursday night.

#9)Duke…(1-1)…The Blue Devils 24-20 loss to Northwestern spoiled the early-season fun but at one-and-one the offense is there, they just need to shore up the defense.

#10)TIE:N.C. State(1-1) and Elon(1-1)…With the 34-24 win over William and Mary, Tom O’Brien and staff are doing things the right way in Raleigh, but it does take time. Scott Riddle the Elon quarterback still has it, going 26-42 for 261 yards and 3TD’s in the Phoenix win last Saturday.

It is a battle between Riley Skinner of Wake, Patrick Pinkney from East Carolina, Scott Riddle out of Ramseur at Elon and Josh Vogelbach at Guilford College to see who is the best college quarterback in the state. Armanti Edwards at Appalachian has dropped off a bit here to start the 2008 season.

There’s the first poll and next week we won’t have as much to say, we will focus more on ranking the teams and don’t forget forget to support the Triad’s team, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. They made the Triad proud with their win on National TV last Saturday.

  1. are you kidding me….so you are saying that A&T and Guilford could beat App. State….give me a break…how about putting a little thought into this the next time.

  2. This poll is more about getting the guys like Guilford, NC A&T, Elon, UNCP, LR and others some pub and credit.

We also need to shed the light on how far teams like Duke, UNC-CH, and N.C. State have fallen……The Big Four with the exception of Wake Forest could learn a few things from the smaller colleges in our state.

Let’s send a Wake-up call to the big guys and let them know they need to get to work and improve their programs now, or the little guy will get the pie.
