Hard fought by both teams, old school defensive match up playing field position. A few stupid penalties on each team snuffed out some scoring opportunities. East finally broke through right before halftime to score a TD but the extra point was blocked. East took the opening 2nd half kickoff down the field and scored on a field goal to go up 9-0. Page takes the next possession down the field aided by a long kick-off return by Thuc Phan and scores, Newman pass to Gabe King, to cut the margin to 9-7. Page would have another shot to put pointson the board but Matt Millisor’s kick hooked wide left. Both D’s play tough until 6:36 are left in the 4th. East takes and maintains possession for the last 6:36 with a multitude of power runs to the left, 1st downs aided by a couple of untimely Page penalties, illegal substitution and ran out the clock. East is now in the driver’s seat to win the Metro 4-A with Grimsley at home next week and High Point Central on the road to close-out the season. It’s been awhile since the boys from Kernersville have been at the top of the Metro but they won a hard fought victory over a tough hard nosed Page Team. Not a lot of points but again a great game.

The last time the Eagles won the Metro 4A was in 1992 and I think we all know what happened in 1992…The Eagles won the 4A state title
