Even though the kids have the day off from school, the high school basketball practices will get started this afternoon at the area public schools.
All winter sports can get going today and it should be a busy time with all the fall sports that are still under way. Ragsdale is at home tonight in football versus Southwestern Randolph and Eastern Guilford travels to face McMichael up in Rockingham County. Why the schools didn’t play on Friday and go ahead and get the games taken care of is still anyone’s guess. Was it the extended forecast? Carole Andrews is doing news on WFMY 2 after being away for a few years. She used to be one of the anchors on FOX8. Maybe everyone wanted to get home in time to see her return to the tube.
There are still two football games coming up on Thursday with Northwest Guilford at Smith and Southeast Guilford at Eastern Randolph. Not sure why they are playing games on Thursdays this week either?????
The basketballs rolling out and practice starting is a good sign for the local hoops and players to watch for include PJ Hairston, Brandon Pennix, Reggie Dillard and Brendan Wyatt at Dudley, in fact Hairston was at the UNC-CH scrimmage last Friday night. William Graves(from Dudley) was 0-5 from the field in the workout and I heard the new Tar Heel freshmen really looked good.(Ed Davis, Larry Drew II, Tyler Zeller, Justin Watts, etc.)
Others to keep an eye at these early practices are Julius Brooks at Page, Keith Manley at Grimsley, Jonathan Frye and Jacob Lawson at Northern Guilford, Jay Canty at Ragsdale and Tony Washington will be one to watch once football season is over and he gets into the gym at High Point Andrews.
Good afternoon Andy just wanted to know when do the Basketball Season start for High School?
Debrano it is good to hear from you again.
Most of the area teams start play the week before Thanksgiving. Approx. November 20,21,22……..
Is Julius Brooks coming to The College of Charleston???
I haven’t heard word yet about where Julius is going next year. I will let you know when I hear something.
