Panthers battle in Baseball: Dudley vs. Ledford scrimmage and other baseball lore

Dudley Panthers versus the Ledford Panthers in high school baseball this past Saturday. Here’s the update courtesy of Ray Crawford Sr.:

Dudley played its first baseball scrimmage game of the year against Ledford on Saturday 2-21-2009.

Dudley used four pitchers and they all looked good Eric Kimber, Jabril Shabazz, A.J. Williams, and Brandon Burkes.

Dudley won 5-1 behind the hitting of Eric Kimber with two hits, Corey Williamson had a three run homer and Ray Crawford hit a two run homer.

The kid Kevin Conley(son of Kevin Conley FOX8 Sports) for Ledford looked very good pitching.

The music was playing and the good times have begun.

*****Souteast Guilford***** at AL Brown in Kannapolis Saturday. SEG and AL Brown were supposed to play at the Kannapolis Intimdators stadium, but they had a water main break and the game was moved back to Brown High School.

Josh Tobias had long home run for the SEG Falcons and rumor has it they are still looking for it down there in Kannapolis. Tiger Miller got a couple of hits and drew four walks for the Falcons,(they played a doubleheader) and Brian Webb and Tivon Clark looked solid in the outfield. Colby Keene and Gareth Bigham are working behind the plate for the Falcons, while Austin Bowman, Tanner Hodgins and Trey Gilmore are among the other returning veterans. Jay Steele is another promising newcomer.

Tobias, Gilmore and Webb should make up the heart of the Falcon pitching staff.

I made the trek down to Davidson on Saturday to watch Clint Moore(Grimsley HS) of the Army Black Knights as the battled the Davidson Wildcats in a cool night game on the Davidson campus. Clint had a home run and a triple in the day game win by the Black Knights over the Ohio University Bobcats, but the Black Knights found the Wildcats of Davidson too tough to overcome in the late game that got under way at about 8pm and finished at around 11pm.

Tony Sutphin will have more and we will try and go by the goarmysports.com site and get some additional info.

Nothern Guilford was in action with a scrimmage this past Saturday. I can’t remember, right of the bat, who they were playing. Hopefully Justin Smith will help us out here.
