Coach Stan Kowalewski and Coach Kris Britton for Coach of the Year.
Let’s go ahead and name Coach Kowalewski and Coach Britton as the Guilford County Coaches-of-the-Year and they might end up taking this honor on the area and state levels too.
Any arguements about what the men’s basketball leader at Northern Guilford, and the women’s mentor at Dudley have done with their respective teams?
Both coaches have taken their teams to season marks of (29-3) and they have the Nighthawks and the Panthers in the State Title games.
The only team that I can rememer getting to the Title game this quick for the boys was East Chapel Hill and they it in either their first or second year of existence with Henrik Rodl, who went on to play for North Carolina and they had Chris Hobbs who played at Clemson.
Northern is in the finals in just their second year. Great job by the Nighthawks and that 61-59 win at Northern Vance was huge as it came on the road with Jacob Lawson sick and Northern fighting for their young playoff lives and a sectional championship all at the same time.
The Dudley girls run, they run, and they run some more. This team is so fast and with Helen Terry, Breonna Patterson, Jessica Farr, Portia Roach and the young lady known in some publications as Drayton Desiree, who in reality is Desiree Drayton; this Dudley team is loaded with offensive speed and all-out defensive effort.
We have two fine teams and two excellent coaches leading them into the Championship games this Saturday. Let’s support them both and cheer them on as they work hard to bring the Champoinship trophies back to Guilford County……
I will be there cheering them on!!! Wish Andrews or Ragsdale could have been on the other side.
We also have Mount Tabor and Bishop playing for 1A and 4A. I will be pulling for them also. Lots of local kids heading to states.

Coach K should be the new coach at HPU after Northern wins the State Championship.

Coach K definitely deserves this honor. I have seen this man do alot for his boys and the hard work he has put in. The entire program deserves a standing ovation for a tremendous year.
Since we have established they both win coach of the year, who do you think player of the year for boys should be?
Mike Neal or John Frye who both led Northern to the states?
Jay Canty or PJ Harriston whos team both fell short?

Correction… the kid playing under Coach Britton’s leadership at Dudley correct name is Desiree Drayton #44 instead of Drayton Desiree.
