It has been a summer of specultion and the street has been hot and now we have new information on Jay Canty from Ragsdale and what exactly might be in his future.
In this on-going look, we again peer inside and try it unfold the real deal on:
Canty leaving Ragsdale?
If the rumors floating around Jamestown prove to be true, Ragsdale basketball coach Craig Shoemaker could be facing a daunting rebuilding job next year. Unconfirmed sources have reported that Division I prospect Jay Canty plans to transfer to an unnamed prep school in Kansas. Canty, a 6-5 swingman, had committed to High Point University after his sophomore year, but after the Panthers fired head coach Bart Lundy, Canty began looking elsewhere. But now, a source who spoke on condition of anonymity said that grades are an issue with Canty and that his purpose in transferring is to get his grades up, adding that he likely would not be eligible at Ragsdale until the second semester, if then.
The highly respected coach may also be facing another dilemma. After losing both his two-year starting guards, Wally Jones and Josh White, rising senior C.J. Plummer, who was the first guard off the bench last year and was expected to be a starter next campaign, is also rumored to be transferring to a private school.
Jamestown News editor Ogi Overman, who is close to the program, was contacted by Greensborosports.com and he too declined comment.
“I’ve spoken with Coach Shoemaker about both those kids, but it was a private conversation and I would be violating a confidence if I told you,†said Overman. “All I can tell you is that he has heard the rumors but has not talked to Jay personally since school was out.â€
Overman then added, “But even if he does lose one or both of them, he has some kids coming in that he feels really good about. They could still be good next year. Maybe not 26-2 good, but good enough to contend in their new 4-A conference.â€
