Jamestown Park Golf Course Hosts Youth Golf Clinic
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The town of Jamestown is throwing a party to officially kick off Wyndham Championship week. The inaugural Jamestown Swing into the Wyndham Championship is set for Saturday, Aug. 15 from 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. In addition, the tournament’s youth golf clinic will be conducted at Jamestown Park Golf Club this year.
Jamestown Swing into the Wyndham Championship will feature seven bands performing on two stages at opposite ends of the event, food vendors, two beer gardens and a wine tasting area. The event will occupy the entire length of Gannaway Street in Jamestown. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for students with members of the military admitted free of charge.
The featured bands are Martha and the Moodswingers, Shaggie Maggie, One Leg Up and Blues World Order performing on the “swing stage†with Hot Politics, Five Gallon Groove and Walrus performing on the “rock stage.†Additional information is available at www.jamestownswing.com.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ragsdale Family Branch YMCA “We Build People†campaign, a charitable YMCA program supporting the Open Doors scholarship program. Gifts to “We Build People†keep memberships and programs at the Y affordable and open to everyone. YMCA programs supported include camp and childcare, sports and aquatics, health and wellness and teens.
“We really appreciate the great people in Jamestown stepping up to support the Wyndham Championship in such a big way,†tournament director Mark Brazil said. “An event this large requires a huge amount of preparation, planning and commitment, and the Jamestown Swing will be a fantastic way to kick off Wyndham Championship week in the Piedmont Triad. We also appreciate Jamestown Park hosting our Youth Golf Clinic. This event is always well attended, and it’s very important to the Wyndham Championship.â€
Hosted by LPGA professional Marcy Hart and PGA TOUR long bomber Bubba Watson, the Wyndham Championship Youth Golf Clinic is set for 4 p.m. at Jamestown Park Golf Club on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Hart, a native of Thomasville, N.C., has been a regular on the LPGA Tour since 2004 but is still seeking her first LPGA victory. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000 and joined the LPGA Tour in 2001.
Hart hosts the annual Marcy Hart LPGA Charity Classic Pro-Am in High Point, N.C. to benefit Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test, the Greensboro, N.C.-based non-profit organization dedicated solely to funding research to find an earlier biological test for breast cancer.
Watson enjoyed his best PGA TOUR season to date in 2008 making the TOUR Championship and finishing 30th in the final FedExCup standings. The University of Georgia alumnus made his first PGA TOUR start in 2002 but began playing fulltime in 2006. Known as an ultra-long driver of the golf ball, Watson led the PGA TOUR in driving distance last year averaging 315.4 yards per drive.
