  1. This was just another opportunity to show you how soft the Northern Guilfords schedule is. Smith just got beat by a school out of Raleigh a few days ago over at Northern Guilford by the score of 77-22(Wakefield or Enloe). If they would have played teams early that might put some pressure on them, they might have been able to win against Ben L. Smith. We hurt our area teams when we stack the schedule looking at the win/lose record instead of playing good competition.

  2. I think what this goes to prove is that any given team can win on any given day. Northern’s schedule is not any softer than anyone elses. The game today could have gone either way as I am sure anyone who was there actually watching the game would attest to. Shortly after the NG-Smith game, Page beat Northwest, so go figure. Page barely beat Ragsdale the day before and they won that game basically because Ragsdale’s shooting was off. I don’t think anyone would have expected Page to be in the finals.

  3. Your might be right about the any given day a team can win, but Page and NW have been in the same conference over the last 8 basketball seasons. They played each other about 3 0r 4 times a year (2 regular season, conference tourn and little 4) so they are very familiar with each other. When I check Northerns schedule they hadn’t played anyone that was as physical as Smith and where was the scoring machine this afternoon, held to 4 pts. I just thought I would see more from all the pub that this team has received from the N/R and greensborosports.

  4. I think NW has always beaten Page in the regular season and the conference tourneys for the last couple of years, haven’t they? After J Gill left, Page has not been much of a contender. And I believe Smith played Northern last season twice and they beat Northern once and Northern beat them once, so again…the game could have gone either way today…. it was a one-point game at the half. Also, I would not say that Rockingham, Eastern and Western Alamance are “soft” and they are all part of Northern’s conference. However, point taken about Cofer. She is a great basketball player but maybe now some of the other Northern talent that has been suppressed by all the attention on her from the press and the NG coach will get an opportunity to emerge and share the spotlight. No team should revolve around one player.

  5. I watched the Smith-Northern Game today and I can tell you one thing: Smith is a much better “TEAM.” The Coffer girl is pretty good but she was shut down today scoring only 4pts. Northern has definitely played a cupcake schedule up to this point with Smith being their only truly talented opponents. This Northern team is good but in my opinion not good enough to beat Smith. The Smith Girls are quicker, faster, stronger, tougher, and more talented as a whole and they play team defense.

***The game that Smith lost was to Wakefield (Raleigh) and three Smith starters did not play and one played with injury. I’m not sure if any team in the state is even 20pts better than them.***

I also watched the Northwest-Page game today. Page flat out played them tonight from beginning to end. It really had nothing to do with what NW was doing wrong but the tremendous job that Page was doing on both offense and defense. Northwest suited up its usual starting lineup and played a good game but were unable to match the effort from Page.

The championship game tomorrow should be a good one!

***I’M SO TIRED OF THE NORTHERN/NORTHWEST GUILFORD FAN FAITHFUL MAKING EXCUSES FOR THEIR SHORTCOMINGS. THEY BOTH PLAYED GOOD GAMES BUT WERE BEATEN BY GOOD TEAMS. ITS TIME TO STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR WHY THESE SCHOOLS LOSE GAMES AND ACCEPT THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ALL THEY WERE HYPED UP TO BE***

  6. Page – NW
    09-10 1* 1
    08-09 0 2
07-08 2 0 (both games in single OT w/J Gill)
    06-07 1 1 (w/J Gill)

    *only tourney or play-off game

    doesn’t get much closer
