This had to be the wildest game of the year already….Grimsley had not lead in the game all night long with the 1stQ Smith 16, Grimsley 11….Halftime Smith 31, Grimsley 27….3rdQ Smith 51, Grimsley 40…
Then with 3.1 seconds left on the clock and the game all tied up at 67-67 and the Grimsley Whirlies have the ball underneath the Smith basket and they have to go the length of the court or at least get the ball inside halfcourt to have a long shot for the win, that’s exactly what they do and with all the time running off of the clock and the buzzer sounding, Burrell Brown’s buzzer-beater from just inside the half the court stripe(On the right side of the court), goes through the net on the Grimsley basket and the Whirlies win the game with their first lead of the entire night, and the Whirlies win it as the horn goes off, 70-67 over the Smith Golden Eagles…..
Grimsley had tied the game with right around 10 seconds remaining on two free throws by Rashad Sweeney and then Smith went the length of the court and had two possesions on their end to try and win it, one with 6 seconds left and then another with 4.4 seconds remaining and they lost it out of bounds, but got it back on the first set and then lost the ball on a last-touched by Smith and that gave the ball to Grimsley with the 3.1 on the clock and that set the stage for Burrell Brown’s game-winner and it was the type of shot that both camps will be talking about for years and years to come…..
Burrell Brown had four made-baskets on the night and all four were three-pointers…..
If this wasn’t the wildest game of the year, it had to be the wildest ending on that last second buzzer-beater by Burrell Brown….
I will leave the rest of the talk for the fans out there and no disrespect meant toward Smith. Once Grimsley started coming back on the Eagles there was just no stopping the Whirlie assault. Smith missed some key free throws down the stretch and Grimsley made theirs, but you still have to tip your hat to the Golden Eagles and congratulate the seniors on the improvement that their team has shown this year. One of the coaches told me tonight that they are the most improved team in the conference this year.
I’ll leave the rest to fans to talk about this one, which was just as good as any of the ACC games that you will see on TV this season…..Brennan Wyatt and PJ Hairston from Dudley were there checking it out and so was Coach Kent from Page and many other fans and let’s see what the fans have to say about this one won on the buzzer-beater by Burrell Brown, who right now is the happiest man in town……
