Drove by Page High School as I was headed down Church Street, on the way to Northern Guilford, and the Page Pirates were hard at it this morning and then I completed the trek out Church to Spencer-Dixon Road, where the Northern Guilford Nighthawks were working hard in the heat, in preparation for the upcoming 2010 fall football season….
The Nighthawks were training on the baseball outfield and it looked like 60-65 kids were out there this morning, in helmets and shoulder pads and not full gear…..
Northern was huddled up in big groups when I arrived and by my count, there were three large groups of players with about 20 or more players in each group…
There was one Nighthawk kicker working solo, down by the fence near the parking lot and he had one of the female managers as his holder and the other female managers were retrieving the kickoffs, as they came down the field…
Up past second base, the team was running plays and for the most part, it was the scout offense running plays against the #1 Northern defense….The defense was working against the simulation offense…
As time moved on, and I would say that the Nighthawks were out there at least 2 to 2 and a-half hours, the different teams were going offense vs. defense with no tackling….There was one group of linemen working on stance and starts and again as the morning moved on, the NG punter started to get some work in……
Northern may not have the depth that they had last season, but they will have Rocco Scarfone, Maurice Harris, TJ Logan, Daniel Downing, Bob Hicks and others back for this year and that is a pretty good load of skill players right there….Not sure of all the linemen, but Scarfone, Harris, Logan, Downing and Hicks can put some points on the board for you and they will keep any defense they face, very busy….
We look ahead more at week number two, as the rest of the days roll on……
how about your ride out towards mcleansville buddy where you can see some real football going on… and you shouldnt be saying that the defense who faces them will be busy. because let me tell you something the only reason we were a little busy last year was because of Kennan allen, but i got news for you he isnt there anymore, come watch us play them at northern, im sure you will be surprised, because tommy pursley has a few tricks up his sleeves this year.
