The University of North Carolina football team could be down by as many as a dozen players by the time the dust clears in an ongoing NCAA investigation into improper conduct by players.
The NCAA has sent investigators to the Chapel Hill campus at least twice to ask about allegations of inappropriate contact between football players and sports agents, Athletic Director Dick Baddour has said.
That inquiry led the university to look closer at athletic programs and discover and self-report some academic infractions by players on the team. Baddour, head football coach Butch Davis and Chancellor Holden Thorp addressed that investigation in a news conference Thursday evening.
