from Jason Powell at www.prowrestling.net:
Former pro wrestler Jorge Gonzalez died at the age of 44 due to various healthy complications. His Wikipedia page notes that he died on Wednesday. Ovacion Online reports that he had been confined to his home in Colorado in recent years. It was reported last year that he was wheelchair bound and was using a dialysis machine to treat diabetes.
Jason Powell’s POV: Gonzalez worked as El Gigante in WCW, and then had a run as Giant Gonzaelz in WWE. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the third round of the 1988 draft. When that didn’t work out, the story goes that Hawks owner Ted Turner offered him a job in WCW. My condolences go out to his friends and family.
I knew this man and he was a big influence on my life.
