Player of the Week and Guilford County check list

Last week’s winner ended up being Drew Adams from High Point Central and the season-long list includes:
Daniel Downing(Northern Guilford)
Matt Pawlowski(Northwest Guilford)
Mike Fields(Southeast Guilford)
Elijah Jordan(Smith)
Drew Adams(High Point Central)

Jeff Sims was our Steak N Shake Player of the Game in the win by Smith over Dudley last Friday night and for our Player of the Week this week we have three candidates….

QB James Summers(Page)
WR Derek Grant(High Point Central)
QB Jeff Sims(Smith)

Who gets it this week????? E-mail me at and let me know what you think……

On the list as we check it out from last week, we had Summers with the 251 yards rushing, 117 passing, 2 TD passes and 2 TD runs….Grant caught 2 more TD’s from his QB Drew Adams and that should give Derek right at 800 yards receiving for the year and near 10 TD receptions….Sims had three big TD passes for the Smith Golden Eagles, in huge win over Dudley and Jeff accounted for 222 yards through the air, after going a smooth 7-12 in passing for the game…His first pass of the game, on the very Eagle offensive play, went for 74 yards and a touchdown….

Also last Friday on the check-list we have Adams at 24-36 in passing, good for 253 yards and three TD tosses, in Central’s 40-21 win over East Forsyth…..Jamie Cunningham at Southern Guilford came up big again, with three TD passes and 2 TD runs for the Storm, as they rushed for 317 yards and passed for 123, in a win over Trinity…

Daniel Downing, much like Cunningham, Adams and others, continued his stellar work for the season, as last week Downing(QB Double D), was 8-11 for 221 yards and three TD passes….Downing’s teammate at Northern Guilford, TJ Logan, a runningback, also had a big night on Friday, as he scored three times, rushed for right at 100 yards and he picked off a pass…..

In Grimsley’s first win of the year, freshman QB Jake Simpson threw two more TD passes, to his primary receiver Travon Woods and Simpson was 12-22 for 134 yards….Tuc Phan added two touchdowns on the ground for the Page Pirates, as they posted 377 yards rushing and scored 50 points in just three quarters, on Western Guilford….

Duke McCoy had a very good all-around game for the Smith Golden Eagles, as he led the defense and he ran back-up tailback on offense….McCoy played one of the best games that we have seen this season…..

D’onovan Smith, from Ragsdale, rushed for 165 yards and scored 1 TD, in the Tigers win over Parkland and Ragsdale’s Trey Swaim, Kris Steele and Caleb Cates contributed 7 tackles each, to the victory…..

From Northwest Guilford it was Dalton Dillon leading the way, with 145 yards rushing and 2 TD’s against Glenn last Friday night…..

Northwest Observer will probably have something tomorrow or Friday….
