Freshman Robbie Lovejoy(Page High School) was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for his performance in Carolina’s wins over No. 18 South Carolina and Virginia Tech. Lovejoy netted the game winner against the Gamecocks and added a late goal in the ACC win over Virginia Tech.
Lovejoy had not seen any playing time through the first 12 games of the season as the Greensboro, N.C., native appeared to be on his way to redshirting his first year on campus.
The freshman came on just after halftime against the Gamecocks and made an immediate impact challenging the Gamecock goalkeeper before chasing down a deflection in the 78th minute to score the lone goal of the contest.
After the Hokies scored in the 69th minute to pull the margin to 2-1, Lovejoy came through with a late goal ending any threat of the Hokies pulling the upset. The goal was the second in as many games for the freshman.
