High School Baseball Tonight for 3/11/11

Eastern Alamance 9
Northern Guilford 6

Northwest Guilford 4
Ragsdale 0

Keaton Haack threw 5 very good innings for NWG, cruising between 86-90. Adam Swim closed 2 innings for NWG and looked strong. Sanders Kuxhausen hit a HR in the first for NWG. Ragsdale threw freshman Matt Horkey for 2 innings and he gave up 2 runs, Mitch Carstens went 2 innings and gave up 2 runs, and Duncan Sparks closed the last 2 innings. Ragsdale struggled at the plate as Haack looked very good on the mound for NWG.

Northeast Guilford 10
Dudley 9

WP:Caleb McCann
LP:Kevin McCallister
NEG(4-1)/Dudley(3-2)
HR:NEG-Jaylin Davis in the 1st inning, his third homer of the young season……
Dudley led early 4-3 and the Panthers left the bases loaded as the game ended in the top of the 7th…..Dudley up early 5-3 and NEG went up 5-4, then 6-4 Rams, and Dudley battles back to make it 6-5, then it gets tied up at 6-6 and Dudley re-gains the lead at 7-6 and then NEG ties it back up at 7-7 in the third inning, before the Rams go on a run to make it 9-7, then it goes NEG 10-7, before Dudley goes on that last run in the top of the 7th to close the gap to one run and then the game ends at 10-9 NEG……Northeast over Dudley 10-9 at NEG…..(Quite a back and forth hard fought game as you can tell and just when you thought Northeast was going to put it away, Dudley would be right back in the game……)

Our crew arrived in the second inning, but here are some of the offensive stats for you:
NEG hitting highlights…..Johnny Brown two-RBI double….Jacob McCann had a single and one run scored….Winning pitcher Caleb McCann had an RBI single and one run scored…..Harrison Phillips had a big two-run double and one run scored….Cole Wyrick was 1-3 with a single…Joisel Colon had a single and one run scored….Starting Ram pitcher Jaylin Davis had two singles, a home run and an 2 RBI’s….

Dudley hitting highlights…..Zanie Seagraves 2-3 with 2 singles…..Rick Powell 0-1 with two walks and one run scored….Starting pitcher Kevin Murphy 1-3 with a single, an RBI and a run scored…..Miles Sowell 1-3 with a single and a run scored….Julian Spruiell 1-3 with a single a run scored….Corey Williamson 1-3 with a single and a run scored…..Keith Robinson had two walks and an RBI on a bases-loaded walk….

That is about it for the offensive action that we were able to catch at NEG tonight and we will add in more, as it becomes available…..

  1. NWG 4
    Ragsdale 0

  2. Jaylin Davis of NE High hit a homerun in the first inning of the game. That’s 3 homeruns for that kid this year. Keep up the good work RAMS!! LET’S TAKE IT ALL THE WAY THIS YEAR!!!

  3. Northern Guilford was on track to go deep in the playoffs this year but 4 of their returning starters left for private schools. You can use your own judgement as to why they left. aLso 2 of their coaches left. They are 0-2 in the conference so far. The players desrve better than what they are getting.

  4. George Carter, lhp, of committed to UNC Sr
D.C. Arendas, mif, committed to USC Jr
Trip Dunn, C, 1B, NCSU, Wake Forest, Clemson Jr
    Swan Mas Lhp, of Jr.

  5. Northwest is off to a very good start. Nice to see all the college and even a Pro scout or two out at the Northwest baseball games. Keaton Haack (junior) is pitching very well for Northwest with speed up to 90 mph. Good to see the big young man (6′ 5″) Duncan Everette (senior) pitching and hitting well early in the season. Sanders Kuxhausen(senior) is off to a great start with his hitting two home runs in the last two games. (His grandfather would be very proud of the young man.) Ben Schmucker (senior) and several others are contributing with their sticks along with strong play behind the plate from Adam Swim (soph). ( Older brother Alex is the starting catcher for Elon.)
The defense is very strong through three games against good competition. The coaching staff has got the boys focused early on. Fun to watch. GO VIKINGS!!!

  6. NWG has had 3 good wins, but Ragsdale is really down down from past seasons. They do not swing the bats as well as they have–are they young?

  7. Let me get this rght….there were college and pro scouts at NW for the Ragsdale game. Ragsdale started a freshman pitcher and he only gave up 2 runs through 2 innings, then NW only got 2 more runs over the next 5 innings on the Ragsdale bullpen. I bet those scouts wished they had stayed at home and saved the travel money for this one. Or maybe their attention should be re-focused to the 15-year old pitcher, sounds like he has more up-side .

  8. let me get this right, i’m pretty sure the scouts were there for the other starting pitcher Keaton Haack. He throws somewhere around 90 mph. Sounds like he had a good outing too.

  9. It wouldn’t surprise me either if the scouts were to see Keaton Haack……He seems to have his stuff together and is very talented…..I hear he is only a junior and if that is the case, he has some very good days looming ahead of him….Ducan Everett has already committed to Barton College and I beleive Ben Schmucker is on his way to Pembroke, but it might be Campbell……Kuxhausen is another talented young man on the NWG roster and I agree that Adam Swim is going to be a very good ball player….

SWG at NWG next Friday night and that should be an early determiner for the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference…..With Haack, Everett, Schmucker and others on the mound, NWG can be a true contender……..

  10. The scouts were there as they have been for other NWG games from various colleges. All you have to do is look at their guns. They are seeing some 90 mph pitches. Keaton Haack is a very talented young man and his parents are very good people. Andy has it right on the committments by Duncan E and Ben S. You would have to ask the scouts who they were there to see. If you want to see a good game, the SWG at NWG should be a good one this Friday night.

  11. From what I can see Ragsdale is very young. Only 3 seniors and 6-7 underclassman were on the field against NWG in the last 2/3’s of the game. I heard Ragsdale barely has enough players to have a varsity and JV team. However that doesn’t take away from the play of NWG. Thay looked good and Haack was strong on the mound. Haack pitched around 87-88 all night. Pretty sure that is who the scouts were there to see although they were looking at others..

  12. Ragsdale is young. However, they are talented, and I expect they will continue to get better throughout the year. All three of their pitchers pitched well Friday, and you can tell the team can play. It was a nice win for NW.
