Five Guilford College Students Honored on ODAC Sportsmanship Teams

FOREST, Va.- Five Guilford College students were named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) 2011 StellarOne Winter Sportsmanship Teams in their respective sports, the league announced Tuesday. The five Quakers recognized were:

  • Senior Kim Abbott (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) – Swimming
  • Senior T.C Anderson (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) – Men’s Basketball
  • Freshman Michael Mellinger (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) – Men’s Indoor Track & Field
  • Freshman Khenti-Sha Iyi (Detroit, Mich./Olney Friends (Ohio)) – Women’s Basketball
  • Freshman Taylor Stokes (Advance, N.C./Davie) – Women’s Indoor Track & Field

“I am pleased the conference recognizes student-athletes for their focus on fair play and sportsmanship,” ODAC Commissioner Brad Bankston said. “The conference prides itself on positive sportsmanship and encouraging student-athletes to lead by example. Each one of the honorees has been selected by the coaches in recognition of their conduct in the arena.”

The announcement marks the second time the ODAC has recognized student-athletes for sportsmanship. There were 43 students honored on this season’s winter teams.
