Guilford Ranks First in NCAA Division III Golf Ratings

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College’s men’s golf team remains in first place in two NCAA Division III polls through two spring tournaments. After a one-week absence, the Quakers returned to first place in the Mar. 23 edition of the Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Rankings and also retained their top spot in the latest NCAA Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll.

After sharing first place with a two-day score of 609, Guilford lost in a playoff to Cape Fear Community College and finished in second place at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at the Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, N.C. Guilford junior Mat Hennick (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor (Skagit Valley College)) topped the Quakers and finished sixth with a two-under 150. Teammates Noah Ratner (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) and Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) both shot 153, good for a share of eighth place.

Ratner leads the Quakers with a 73.31 stroke average through 16 rounds. Hennick stands second at 73.44, followed by freshman Alex Wise (Eden, N.C./Carlisle School (Va.)).

First-year head coach Corey Maggard’s squad returns to action Mar. 25- 27 at the 40th Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate at Paradise Point Golf Course, in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Along with the Greensboro Sports Commission, the Quakers will co-host the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship May 10-13 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro.
