HS Baseball Bulletin Board for 3/25/11

Some big games all across the board for tonight…..Here is a look at the slate….

Glenn at Southwest Guilford 7pm….This is the biggest game of the night on paper when you look at these two in the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference….Matt “Mo” Orth would be ready to go for SWG and not sure who the Bobcats will bring to the hill…Noah Pearl faced Orth and SWG last time out, in what turned out to be a 1-0 win by Glenn at Glenn and that gave the Bobcats the early one game lead in the conference…Pearl pitched and got the win earlier in the week against Ragsdale and now who will Glenn turn to in this very important meeting at SWG??? SWG has a sound lineup and they may be in line to win this game at home….It will be up to Orth and his mates, like Miller, Dale, Geoghegan, Sickmiller, Kellam, Cole, Polisetti and others to step up and get the big victory tonight…..SWG(6-2) overall….

Page at Southeast Guilford 7pm….SEG(7-2) wants to stay near the driver’s seat in the Metro 4-A as they face the Page Pirates(5-2) tonight….SEG is coming off of that 5-4 win over SWG back on Wednesday night and Page fell to Dudley 10-6 on Tuesday….SEG has a plethora of pitchers to choose from and it might be time for Dylan Shutt to go again, he’s (4-0) on the season if my numbers are correct, but Page might see Jacobelli, Flinchum or even Tobias this evening….Newton and Bain worked back on Wednesday…..For Page they have a very strong defensive team and SEG will be poised to keep them busy tonight with Schofield, Reynolds, Sandlin, Syndor, and Kornblum all set to try and move the game in the Pirates’ direction…..

Grimsley at Dudley 7pm….Dudley could come right at Grimsley with Corey Kimber tonight and for the Whirlies they used Ryan Stoneman and Quito Carrig earlier in the week and how about maybe some Sawyer Highfill and Seth O’Fallon tonight??? We will have to wait and see, but this is another big contest, as both teams try and stay in the hunt for the Metro 4-A’s top four spots….All of the teams are still in the race right now with the exception of the Smith Golden Eagles and they have plans to be a spoiler, before this season is over…..Dudley has some heavy lumber/aluminum with Corey Williamson having been on a tear this week and he has loads of help from Kimber as in “timber”, plus Powell, Seagraves, Robinson, Smith and others are on deck…..Grimsley must get a push from Shumate at the top of the lineup/order and then Jones, Highfill, Reader, Smith, Stevens, Stoneman, O’Fallon and the rest of the Whirlies have to keep the basepaths hot, in order for them to win on the road, on a cold night….

Northwest Guilford at Ragsdale 7pm…This is a very interesting game with NWG coming off of loss last night to North Davidson and Ragsdale having dropped a 4-0 decision to Glenn back at the first part of this week…NWG took game one between these two back earlier in the season and with Glenn and SWG fighting it out for the top spot tonight over in High Point, this game means a lot since the loser will have a long way to go to stay in the thick of the conference chase….NWG had a quality win over East Forsyth already this week and now we have see which one of these clubs is a cold weather team….I have seen some real cold ones at Ragsdale in the past, the Ragsdale-SEG from last year comes to mind and now we shall see who has the strongest pitching left in the tank for this Friday night freezer…..Kuxhausen and Everett have been hitting the cover off of the ball for NWG, so we will see if they can keep it coming in Jamestown tonight…Ragsdale has plenty of Tigers to challenge the Vikings, it just remains to be seen if they are building on the present or looking more towards the future…..

Northeast Guilford at North Forsyth 7pm….If this were going to be a basketball game we might be thinking close, but in baseball, I’m not sure that the NF Vikings have the horses to stay with NEG(9-1)…..NEG now (9-1) and the best team in our area and they are still one run away from being unbeaten and the loss came in game of the season to Western Alamance, 8-7, and who knows, maybe that loss got NEG’s attention and is making them a better team now at this stage of the season….NEG got by Asheboro in 9 innings this week and winning the tough ones/close ones is key for NEG, as they forge ahead, hoping to go unbeaten in their conference….You gotta believe that with Colon, Paula, Phillips, Davis, both McCanns, Johnny Brown, Jordan Brown, and Cole Wyrick, that the Rams can continue to win and to do it in an impressive fashion….After watching all of the kids we have been mentioning today, it seems like we are still looking at Colt Baseball or Junior Legion baseball from last summer….It is almost like following a re-run from the summer, carrying over to this spring…..

Morehead at Northern Guilford 6pm….By what we have been able to track, Morehead has been playing some pretty good ball this year and it ought to be a good one at NG tonight….Always a good one for NG if they can throw Austin Hardin and we shall see if he is in the rotation for this evening…James Hudson has been one of the Nighthawks heavy hitters this season and we’ll see if he can get it going again tonight…

Burlington Williams at Eastern Guilford 6pm….EG needs to get Will Oakes and Adam Gunn firing on all cylinders again and Mr. Hunt and Mr. Wolf have to start digging in, as well as Bobby Hedrick, Ryan Hackett and all the Wildcats….Williams is a decent hitting team and they will be no pushover tonight….

WS Parkland at High Point Central 7pm….Central fell at Parkland back on Monday and now the Bison have look within and find some real steady and solid pitching that go the hard way and the long way tonight versus the Mustangs……Trevor Gay may be ready and Seth Beane probably still has a few innings left in him, after he started and then left early, early in the week……Johnny Wholestaff may get the call tonight from Coach Morgan….

Also cooking for this evening we have…..
Southern Guilford at Southwestern Randolph 7pm…SG is young, but still very hungry with Canada, McLamb, Jones and company…
Oak Ridge at Randleman 6:30pm…ORMA has improved to (4-5)
Rockingham County at Eastern Alamance 6pm
McMichael at Western Alamance 5pm

  1. I’m guessing Tobias followed by Jacobelli on the hill tonight for SEG. Should be a good game but a cool hopefully not wet night.

  2. SEG fans and Page fans and all fans for that matter send us your scores tonight….The updates and scores fit real nicely here in the comment box or you can send them to andy@greensborosports.com……

Speaking of SEG and how about the younger Falcons? Is the Devin Sweet kid and the big Cameron kid, are they playing for the SEG JV’s and if so, how are they doing….Was hearing that the SEG JV’s were having another real good season so far and that Mr. Gamble is the coach……

  3. The SEG JV team is having a great year. Currently 6-2 overall with a 4-1 conference record. The only conference loss was a 1-0 game at Southern Alamance, and one of the best JV games I’ve seen in a long time. The win column includes a great game @ NE with SEG on top 2-1.

SEG is going to be strong now and in the future!

  4. Ragsdale 1
    Northwest 0
WP Zack Hodges, 2 innings 2 K’s 2 hits no runs
    LP Duncan Everette 5 1/3 innings 2 k’s 3 hits 3 walks 1 error 1 run
No decision Tyler Southcott 5 innings 5 k’s 2 walks 1 hit 1 error no runs
For Ragsdale, Grant Desjardins 1-3, Kyle Morrison 1-3, Tyler Southcott1-3 1 RBI
