Former Duke basketball captain Tom Emma dies after jump from New York City building

No suicide note, but former Duke University basketball captain Tom Emma died on Tuesday, after leaping to his death from the 12th floor, of a New York City building….

I saw Tom Emma play in one of those Duke Blue-White scrimmages in Coach K’s first year, and it was held in the Bob Sawyer Gymnasium, over at Grimsley High School…..

  1. I played with Tom in a couple of all star games on Long Island. He was a year younger than me, but at the time he was the best player on Long Island. He was the all time leading scorer on Long Island. He was a really good guy who had incredible range on his jumper and also had pretty good hops. He also broke up a potential fight between myself and Kenny Dennard at a frat party at Duke. Dennard would have pummeled me so I am glad he stepped in. I am sad to hear of his passing, but I will always remember that sweet jump shot.
