HS Hoops is not far away:Practice starts on November 1

We start making our lists of players that will be back and we know that for the girls, Zena Lovette will be back for Southwest Guilford and Paris Kea will be back for the Page Pirates and from what we are hearing, there is a new sheriff coming into the Metro 4-A for girls, in Shaylen Burnett, from Southern Alamance……Coach Fritz Hesanthaler, from Southeast Guilford, had a daughter down at SA, but I’m not sure if she is with the hoops, but she is a very good softball player and she is a freshman….Jessica Pone back for SWG? Also watch for Brittany Clency and Carnique Marks from Western Guilford girls and Alyssa Munson, a top prospect from Northwest Guilford….

  1. Both Smith teams will be hard to beat. The boys won the conference tournament and return 4 out of 5 starters. The girls went to the little 4 championship and return all 5 starters if I am not mistaken. After the footbal season this will be good to win alot of games !!!!!!

    Go Eagles

  2. Northeast Guilford boys have a bunch back too and Bryce Benjamin is one of the best players in the state….Dudley boys will have Sam Hunt, Darius Workman, Chris Register, possibly RIchard Hayes…….I know Hayes can play some basketball…..

from NEG boys and I will try and work on that Dudley girls outlook tonight……

    NEG boys back:
    Jalen Hairston 5-9
    Jesse Simpson 6-0
    Bryce Benjamin 6-3
    Trevone Williamson 5-10
    Jalen Courts 6-3
    Kia Shaw 5-8
    Donavon Gilmore 6-6
    Mohammed Tijani 6-1
    Cameron Smith 6-4
    Joey Link 6-5
    Tryone Hammer 6-3

*****NEG pretty much only lost Abdul Tijnai and Paris Scales and they were real good, but it is almost freakish the amount of talent that the Rams will have back this year…..*****

  3. The Dudley boys can still run a five with PG Alvah Phillip, 2G Sam Hunt, 3 Chris Register, 4 DJ Alston and 5 Darus Workman……Dudley should be OK….Dudley girls have the 6’4 amazing sophomore Maize….Plus both Rouses and Lauren Jackson and others……

  4. Dudley girls back:
    Lauryn Jackson
    Moriah Davis
    De’onna Smith
    Makala Rouse
    Akela Maize
    Ebona Goins
    Lakiya Rouse

  5. Dudley boys that are back:

    Keenan Jarman
    D’shante Carelock PF Fr. 6-4 190
    D.J. Alston SF
    Daris Workman
    Anthony Hamlet

  6. ‘public school’ bball is DEAD in Guilford County……………we might as well accept it and move on…………there won’t be any teams contending for state titles around here anytime soon; all the “excitement” is in the privates now and that appears to be the current trend.

  7. The cowboys are in dis thang this year they got the new dude from dudely Clyburn and he is a monster..
nw faces might be anton morgan a quick guy who miight help out at the forword postion..
and also they return terrell leach, jordan hanner, and braxton daye this team is going to be really good they also have freshman point guard kjay langley who was at oak ridge

  8. Major comp among these four boys teams and here’s how we rank them….

#1 Wesleyan….with Theo Pinson, Montay Brandon, Jaquel Richmond and Tre’ Chapman

#2 Greensboro Day School…..with Quayshad Williams, Reggie Dillard, Jalen Ross, Reed Lucas, Christian Hairston, Robert Kleinmann and Montrell Goldston

#3 High Point Christian….with Diante Baldwin, Jackson Kent, Stevie Williams, Chuck Obagdo and Michael Obacha

#4 Caldwell Academy….with Brett Manning and three Nigerian Nightmares in Emeka, Matt and the new kid from NigerIa….Uchedike, Izeku and the new man…

The top four private schools in the state are right here in Guilford County…….Bring on Rodney Purvis…..

  9. SWG boys will be loaded and the girls are not far off….Langley the freshman should start at the point and Brandon Clyburn is outstanding…….He can run the floor in the Cowboys fast-paced offense….

  10. agree that this area has a good number of the best boys teams in the state with the private schools however I would not classify these 4 as the best by any means. Christain Faith out of Charlotte will likely be ranked in the top 10-15 nationallly at the start of the season, Quality Education out of Winston has had top 30 national talent for 3 years in a row so I would expect that trend to continue, Ravencroft still has several high ranking players that will push them near the top of the state rankings and Charlotte generally does a great job with schools such as Charlotte Christain producing a lot of D1 talent every year. The shocking part for many in this area is how many good girl players are now playing at the private schools. There have been several key transfers out of the public school system and many of the younger players are choosing to enter the private schools in the 8th and 9th grade which means that the public high school will never experience some of these players. The rosters at schools such as WestChester, Wesleyan, Greensboro Day, and Thomasville Tech are loaded with AAU. Dudley since has a nice core of players, SW has its 4A champs and Page still have Paris but where else is there significant talent on the girls teams. The same is true with the boys. Other than NE and possibly the young Dudley players, who is left for the boys on the public school level that is potential D1 talent. Guilford Co has too many road blocks that the AD’s and coaches must push thru. The county needs to allow these AD’s and coaches the freedom to build relationships and play whoever they want. Players are leaving for the opportunity to play better schedules and play teams in different cities and states. Why would a good player want to only play players that were on their AAU team or a team that they already play 2-3 times per year in AAU. The private schools are giving kids these opportunities and that is a huge reason why they are leaving.
