Early Signing Period

Special to Greensborosports.com……

The early signing period for prospective students athletes starts from November
10-17. Normally this is the time where college coaches have made their decisions on
the student athlete that they want in their program. It is also a time where the
student athlete has also made their decision as to where they want to attend school
to further their academics and to participate in their respective sport. During this
time it helps a student athlete tremendously as to knowing exactly what school they
will be atttending next Fall or in some cases next Summer for those programs that
have the resources to extend such privileges. Hopefully a lot of thought has gone
into a student athlete as to why they were selecting a particular school, so that no
unrealistic expectations come about later on. Normally student athletes whom sign
during this period are many times a schools top priority unless they could not get
some other student- athlete that they were recruiting.
Every school has a depth chart that they use as far as positions that they are
trying to fill for that particular class. The higher a student athlete is up the
chart, the more they will be treated differently. Many student- athlete are
division one material and will be recruited that way. There are many
student-athletes whom think they are division one but for some reason it has not
materialize and must come to the realization that either division two or three may
be their best recourse especially if academics are intact. Many division two and
three coaches will wait until that student-athlete realize that a division one
scholarship is not in the cards and will either start their process after the
signing date or wait until the Spring to make an offer. They realize that the
student-athlete does not have anything in hand and can now play the waiting game on
that particular student-athlete whom may have snubbed them early on. The division
two coaches
understand that student-athletes will transfer from division one schools because
some may have not been offered to come back and that if they could get that
division one player at that time that they will select them quicker than a
student-athlete that thought they were going to a division one school because they
feel they have more experience and it gives them the greatest chance of winning.
The toughest thing for most student-athletes to do is to swallow their pride
because they have been told they were division one material when in reality it may
have not been the right fit for them but the name of the school sounded good to the
people around them. So with this in mind, in the coming days the early signing
period will validate whom was or was not actually being recruited or whom were or
were not a high priority. College recruiting is a tough business but it is what it
is. Whom are some of the guys and girls in guilford county whom names we should
see during this crucial time period?
