Taking a look at the games that will be coming up this Friday night

A closer look at Northwest Guilford(9-2) at Page(11-0)……

You examine this one closely and you have to see that the Page defense has a big edge….The NWG offense is very reliable too……The difference going in could well be and I have to think it will be, how does the Page offense perform and how will the NWG ‘D’ do in their efforts to stop the Page offense……

Page has a load of lumber on defense and they have been taking teams to the woodshed all season long and taking down the opposing teams’ timbers…..Can Northwest get that very versatile offense cranked up against the Page ‘D’???

Northwest offense coming at you with QB Matt Pawlowski passing/going 75-139(54%) for 1,181 yards and 11 TD’s and 5 INT’s….Rushing Reid Baxter with 1,036 yards on 141 carries and 17 TD’s…..Matt P and Reid B both over 1,000 in passing(MP) and rushing(RB)…..Also Rushing you have Dalton Dillon with 622 yards on 102 carries for 5 NWG TD’s……Anthony Harding has 444 yards on 67 carries and 7 TD’s, plus Kyle Kristy came up with 308 yards on 41 carries….That is a lot of offensive plays and there is more…..Receiving Ryan Overcash has 25 receptions for 480 yards and 3 TD’s and Baxter checks in with 23 catches for 219 yards and 4 TD’s……Evan Tingler adds 207 receiving yards with 2 TD’s….

The Page defense will pull out all stops to stop that offense with DeAnthony Brooks, Shaun Workinger, Jacob Green, Grant Brewer, Christian Cranford, Blake Hickman, Drew Rogers, Will Henry, Savon Wall, Carter Stanley and Ed Britt ready to counter the NWG offense……

That NWG offense has been productive, but that Page ‘D’ is the best in the county and one of the best in the state…….

So much of this study will come down to how much and how fast the Page offense can get going……And can the NWG ‘D’ make the stops??? James Summers had a tough night against the Dudley Panthers at Dudley and then against Southeast Guilford he was nearly unstoppable…..Drew Rogers will need to be able to get off and get running downhill too, for the Pirates….Page has two capable fullbacks in Brooks and Workinger, but I think the Pirates would love to get outside and upfield with Summers and Rogers if at all possible…..

NWG’s offense runs hard and in many directions and I have heard observers say if you take away Reid Baxter, then you can shut down the Vikings…..I’m not so sure about that….I still remember the game that Matt Pawlowski had passing over at Ragsdale, in the Vikings’ win over the Tigers…..That was the best I have ever seen out of Matty P from NWG….Can it be it could happen again, this time at Marion Kirby Stadium? It is going to be much more difficult….The PAGE ‘D’ is so unit and team oriented….They can adjust on the fly and they depend heavily on each other for team results on defense….

Great matchup and it still looks like it might come down to how the NWG defense handles the Page offense…..I think the NWG ‘D’ is the least looked at factor that many observers have been studying on the way in and it needs to be studied in more detail….They will be tested on Friday night, as both sides of the ball will be in for a dogfight…….

  2. As much cracking as i’ve done on NWG….I will admit that this looks like a good matchup….If the NWG “D” shows up and can stop the big play…who knows….good luck to both!!

  5. I’m telling you…this game is going to be “The Thrilla in Manila”….”The Rumble in the Jungle” (R.I.P. Joe Frazier). I’m so excited I can hardly sit still! Northwest is a VERY good team. Page is a very, V-E-R-Y good team! I’ll say…this games is going to be decided by the defense from kickoff to the final buzzer. We know BOTH teams have an outstanding package put together. It’s going to HAVE to be the defense that shuts down the opponent’s offensive…right from the gate!

  8. Def should be the game of the week! How many people can Page’s stadium hold? Do you think this game has a chance to be sold out?

  9. For NWG to pull off the upset they are going to need to contain James Summers ( not an easy task ) because he does it all for Page. They must score points especially each and every time they are in the redzone while limiting mistakes. They MUST and I repeat MUST tackle well if not this will be the reason Page rolls. NWG defense must fly to the ball like crazed lunatics and wrap up while looking to force some turnovers. If NWG can methodically move the ball picking up first downs while keeping Page’s offense off the field and force some turnovers on defense then this match-up could get interesting. These teams did have a 7 on 7 early this summer so they have at least seen each others skill players.

You (Spell Check) should put down your grammar book and pick up a book on manners.
