High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind from 11/11/11 games

There was a full moon out last night and the Page Pirates were coming into their game with Northwest Guilford at (11-0) on 11/11/11 and something had to give and James Summers, Drew Rogers and Orlando Hatfield gave it all with their feet and they would not suffer defeat last night, even though the NWG Vikings drew first blood in that game, when Kyle Kristy broke off on a 94-yard TD run, early in the first quarter….Kristy was hot all night on the cold Friday, but Page got hot real quick after the Kristy caper, that didn’t turn out to be a capper, as Orlando Harfield took off up field, on a 90-yard kickoff return, for a Page Pirate touchdown…..

Page had three TD runs by Drew Rogers and the senior RB finished with 119 yards on 21 carries….Summers added two TD’s for the Pirates and picked up 129 yards running the ball, plus Page got solid blocking and running from their fullbacks, in Shaun Workinger and DeAnthony Brooks….Page ended up with 268 rushing yards and they were making big plays on the ground…..James Summers continues to remind me of Ricky Lewis Jr., when he was leading his Dudley Panthers to success with his feet, a few years back…..Both Summers and Lewis are QB’s that found more success on the ground, than they did through the air and what does it matter, as long as you get the job done….Not much there by the air last night for Page, as they fought through three picks, but in the end they got win and that is what you are looking for…..

Tough night for NWG QB Matt Pawlowski, as he was feeling the pressure of the Page defense coming from up front all night long…..Workinger, Brooks, Cranford, Hickman, Stanley, Roerr, they were roaring in there and applying pressure throughout the evening….

Northwest had solid contributions from Kyle Kristy, who showed excellent speed on his runs and he had the big strip to take the ball away from a Page receiver, while Kristy was on defense…..NWG also had a strong night from Reid Baxter running to the outside and he had several key returns that gave NWG good field position and Dalton Dillon was a bull to the end zone for Northwest on two TD runs…..

Big win by Page over a worthy opponent and the 4th down attempts by NWG did not help their cause, but strong play by the Page defense, especially in the second half, made sure that the Pirates will see Round Three and Matthews Butler next Friday night….

Big Friday for Daniel Downing, T.J. Logan and the Northern Guilford Nighthawks, as they eliminated Western Alamance….T.J. had four TD’s and he ran for 207 yards, plus there were three touchdown passes for Downing……Daniel was 6-9 passing for 153 yards and the 3 TD’s…John McBeth, Scooter Mooney and T.J. Logan were the recipiants of the Downing TD passes….Big night for NG and they hit the road to Fayetteville next Friday night…

Tough losses by our other three Guilford County teams last night and it looks like Ragsdale was right in their game with Mount Tabor to the very end and Ragsdale led early 16-7 and that was the halftime score over in Winston-Salem, at Mount Tabor….Mount Tabor battled back and went up 26-16, before Ragsdale fought back and cut the lead to 26-23 and that is how the Tigers’ season ended….MT QB Mike Eldridge was very big for Mount Tabor, with 2TD passes and one run for a TD, while Ragsdale got 132 yards passing from senior QB Garrison Herndon, but he suffered three interceptions….Ragsdale’s ground game was held to just 83 yards…

The Dudley Panthers scored in the first quarter and that was all that they could muster, at Porter Ridge last night….Long TD run by Brandon Reynolds and that was it….76 yards and that was all she wrote for Dudley….Panthers with just 98 yards total rushing, on 27 carries and 76 of the 98 came on one play…..The run by Reynolds came on a fake punt play….

Southeast Guilford never got started and the Falcons ran into a buzzsaw last night in Laurinburg, where they got ambushed by Scotland County…..The Falcons knew that ‘The Fighting Scots’ would be tough, but 48-0 Scots at the half? That is tough…..Jamal Petty scored SEG’s only TD on a 22-yard run……Scotland County had 179 rushing and 191 passing and that is balance, that is hard to beat…….
