  1. Andy – thanks for reporting how some of this areas former girl players are doing in college. I wish there was more reporting about these former players. It says a lot about the quality of players this area produces and it should be a point of inspiration for the younger players. It shows where you are a girl or a boy, if you are one of the top players in NC, then you can compete with anyone in this nation night in and night out.

  2. In a loss to Mars Hill, Vontreece Hayes (Northern Guilford) of Pfeiffer Univ put up 11pts, 4rbds. Shelley Reese(Northeast Guilford) led Pfeiffer with 12pts.

  3. Megan Buckland(Bishop McGuinness) had 10 points in today’s(Sunday) win by the North Carolina women over USC-Upstate……Buckland did not start today’s game, but all of the Tar Heel women are seeing plenty of playing time….

  4. Great job Vontreece! This young lady gets better every year. the Nighthawk community is proud of you. Keep up the good work!

  6. Does anyone know how or why Whitney Knight ended up at Florida Gulf Coast when she was once on the short list for Duke’s recruiting list ? I personal never saw her play but I heard a lot of good things about her. If she was that good, how could she go to a Florida Gulf Coast and only score 3 points.

  7. I saw her play when she was at Bishop Mc and she was very good. I never understood why she left there. Coach Robinson is one of the best in the area and they always played a very competitive schedule. The recruiting trail is filled with a lot of twists and turns, but how she ended at Florida Gulf Coast is a mystery. I hope she enjoys it there.

  8. I was told that Whitney left Bishop McGuinness because her friends all were at RJ Reynolds, and she missed her friends and had wanted to go to Reynolds and be with her friends. She was very popular at Bishop McGuinness but her best friends were all at Reynolds, and after her sophomore year he parents told her she could go back to Reynolds if she wanted, and that is what she did. She was being recruited by every school in the country her 9th and 10th grade year. Not sure why she ended up at Forida Gulf Coast.
