Did Virginia Tech ‘Trounce’ North Carolina last night?(Eric Ebron/Smith HS with big catch for the Heels last night)

Final score from Blacksburg, Virginia:
(Michael Via of Northeast Guilford HS at center, for VA Tech last night and Eric Ebron from Smith HS at WR, for UNC…)

Virginia Tech 24
North Carolina 21

The newspaper accounts called it a trouncing and was just wondering what the rest of you felt about that from last night??? You heard it, you saw it, you followed it, I’m sure you did….I saw some of the game on ESPN, from the Shane’s Rib Shack and then listened to the game on the radio with Jones Angell and Rick Steinbacher…They missed one of the Hokie TD’s, when they went/broke to a commercial break, but as they say in that business, that’s the breaks….

By many accounts they are calling this game a ‘Trouncing’, but when I added up and checked out the final numbers, UNC out-gained VA Tech on offense, 358 yards to 340 yards and that is pretty tight right there…..North Carolina drew first blood on Gio Bernard’s TD run and then the Hokies posted 24 unanswered points, before UNC closed to make the final 24-21….The question is all about the in-between…..In-between the UNC 7-0 lead and the Hokies’ 24-7 advantage was it a close game?

The numbers would show it was a close game and not a ‘Trouncing”, but what do you think??? North Carolina did lead in the penalty department with 6 penalties for 59 yards, to Virginia Tech’s just 2 miscues for only 25 yards…..Maybe that was a key difference?

Your thoughts on this game and it was good to see Greensboro Smith’s Eric Ebron, with another big catch of 18 yards, in this contest for the Heels…..

The final score looks real close, but was this a ‘Trouncing’???

  1. No it wasn’t a trouncing. At some point in the game, UNC was getting trounced, but it was clear that all of the sports media started writing their stories in the third quarter after the Hokies blew open a lead, neglecting what could have been a great comeback by the Heels. The offense continued to fail early in the fourth quarter with NO sense of urgency, but because our defense wanted that W, UNC were still in the game. Clock management could have also helped in the dying seconds of the game (Why chew your own clock down 17 in the 4th?).

  2. Wow Mr. Reader that is an interesting choice of words.

I guess if 3 points is a trouncing then 13 – 0 must have been a total and complete butt kicking!

Couldn’t happen to a better bunch of cheater smurfs!

  3. I’m an NC State fan and I agree with Mr. Reader. The refs in the ACC are the worst I’ve ever seen.
    1) The pass interference call went against Carolina
    2) The pass carolina caught on the 3 yard line that was called “out of bounds”. The back judge was right there on the play and called him “in bounds” and then evidently they all got together and called him out. Review stood up but would have stood up if they called him in.
    3) The fumble that wasn’t reviewable.

  4. OK I am sorry I shouldn’t have said “Cheated.” Robbed! Robbed! I tell U, We were ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

  5. What? Carlina lost? They don’t ever lose. Must have been a reason. It’s always somebody else’s fault. After all they are the “flagship” university!
